The Miracle of Forgiveness, p. 101 “One of the most fallacious doctrines originated by Satan and propounded by man is that man is saved alone by the grace of God; that belief in Jesus Christ alone is all that is needed for salvation. Along with all the other works necessary for man’s exaltation in the kingdom of God this could rule out the need for repentance. It could give license for sin and, since it does not require man to work out his salvation, could accept instead lip service, death-bed “repentance,” and shallow, meaningless confession of sin.” – Spencer W. Kimball, 1969
Romans 10:4 “For Christ is the end of the law for righteousness to everyone who believes.”
Mr. Kimball’s slam on Ephesians 2:8-9 is nothing but a ruse to draw attention away from God, and the mercy He lavishly bestows upon us.
It’s no surprise he’d say this considering his grandfather, Heber C. Kimball, did the same thing as an early LDS apostle. Couched in its narrative is the twisted plagiarism of Ephesians 2:8-9 that shows up as 2 Nephi 25:23, proclaiming we’re ‘saved by grace after all we can do’.
Ephesians 2:8-9 gives no license for sin, nor does it eliminate the need for repentance. The true believer is prompted by God’s Holy Spirit inside to do this as he/she is being drawn closer to the Lord. The desire of a believer is to be holy, just as He is holy.
If we’re not saved by grace, the gospel is for naught my friends. Galatians 2:20-21 states if our righteousness came by the Law, Christ is dead in vain. Why would we proclaim His name while working for salvation as well?
Pray for those who continue to believe the atrocious lies of this false gospel being taught as truth by the numerous false prophets.
With Love in Christ;
Michelle
This is one of the worst things said by LDS. Following what Kimball said has lead to generations of Mormons enslaved by works.
If you’re in LDS, and follow Joseph Smith’s religion, the works never end. You never know if you’ve done enough.
You are here:
When you read the Bible, the Holy Spirit will call you to the truth. He will lead you to confess, with a contrite heart, your sins of not keeping the Ten Commandments.
Then He will show you the truth in the Gospel (Good News). The Gospel shows you God’s GRACE (undeserved love)
through Jesus’ death and resurrection which was done FOR YOU!
AND THEN, you are FREE-the chains to works are gone. Our hearts are filled with joy and we want to share this Grace with others.
Some Bible verses (in ESV):
Romans 11:6
But if it is by grace, it is no longer on the basis of works; otherwise grace would no longer be grace.
Ephesians 2:8
For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God,
Hebrews 2:9
But we see him who for a little while was made lower than the angels, namely Jesus, crowned with glory and honor because of the suffering of death, so that by the grace of God he might taste death for everyone.
Beautiful Miss Sue – thanks for sharing such a great resource of scriptures!
Michelle
Luke 23 demonstrates we’re saved by grace ALONE. It was no coincidence that 2 criminals were crucified with Jesus. One’s heart remained hardened to the end, while the other’s softened, and Jesus assuredly told him that he would be with Him in paradise.
This beautifully illustrates it is by grace ALONE we are saved. The thief on the cross didn’t have time to do anything to earn salvation.
Ephesians 2: 9 it is the gift of God: NOT of works, lest any man should boast.
Do you want to tell Jesus that He’s not enough? I sure don’t.
You might find my examination of “Miracle of Forgiveness” to be of value. It is one powerful book for use in discussions with Mormons.

The criminal on the crossed saved had never claimed to be saved or of God he admitted all he ever did was wrong. Jesus tells what happens to those that work iniquity and in the end scream lord lord after a life of doing all in jesus name and claiming to be of God. Jesus teaches that a sinner is a servant of sin and will never abide in the house of God. Jesus teaches to truly repent of sin and never sin again. Jesus teaches to be perfect as the father in heaven is perfect. Jesus teaches the ruler that he must do the commandments to get into heaven but he lacked one his riches and he told him to be perfect to sell and give away all he had and come walk with him. Jesus teaches that those whom trust in riches will not inherit the kingdom of heaven. Jesus teaches you cannot serve God and (money) and jesus was killed for forbidding (teaching others) to not pay nations tribute(taxes). What you have in the churches today is people saying by grace alone even with them still sinning they will go to heaven. They say they are in the flesh and will never be able to defeat their sin but it’s ok because jesus died for their sins as if it’s ok to be a sinner and this is the greatest lie of all because jesus taught what sin does and where a sinner goes. The churches follow paul who teaches against women and teaches people to pay tribute after jesus forbid it and was murdered for it. Paul claimed to be of jesus christ but was not of jesus CHRIST and went against jesus christ’s teachings. That’s a reason this government causes so many evils with the system of mammon and taxes is because the churches will not come together and teach how jesus was against a mammon(money) runned government because of all the sin and evil things it causes. If you believe you are saved by grace and can still sin your in a hell of amount of trouble when you die. Your going straight to hell and grace will not save you. I mean is it that hard to understand if you do evil all your life and claim to be saved that in the end you will not go to heaven. These doctrines of Paul claiming he cannot stop doing what he hates and doing bad stuff but even as sinners are joined together with god by jesus saved by grace automatically saved not by what you do but you are automatically saved is abomination towards god and a bold faced lie. Paul was not a true Christian nor did he find salvation. He followed the law of governing powers and went against what jesus forbid. He is the likeness of countless false preachers and teachers of how to gain eternal life today that preach their saved by grace lies in churches and places all over the world. Jesus says what will happen to those that claim to be of jesus and work iniquity (sin) jesus says what will happen to the servants of sin. Jesus CALLS ON TRUE REPENTANCE FROM SIN AND TO SIN NO MORE. JESUS TEACHES HOW SIN WILL SEND YOU TO HELL FIREAND THAT IS THE TRUTH OF IT. Beware of these false saved by grace preachers in this world for many want to go to heaven but only few will go. Those reading this know you have just read the truth and turn from your sinful ways and stand up against this evil government that is the root of all evils in this world just as jesus faught against it in his day. In jesus name and teachings. Amen
Hi Galen, it’s me again -Melissa,
Your comment has weighed very heavy on my heart today. I wish I had more time to respond earlier. You said…”If you believe you are saved by grace and can still sin your in a hell of amount of trouble when you die. Your going straight to hell and grace will not save you”. So it’s not that we believe we are saved by grace and still want to sin. We are sinners, even on our best day ever, our efforts are like filthy rags. In all fairness Galen, can you let us know the secret to living a perfect and sinless life. I ask, not to mock, but to point out that no one has ever lived a sinless life except for Jesus. Starting with Adam and Eve, they had one command and they failed. Can you name one person past or present who was/is perfect? What if you died right now? Will you go “straight to hell”? Did you sin today? Will you sin at some point in the future? How do we stop sinning? If we don’t understand the concept of sin, then we will not understand salvation. Have you stopped sinning? Can you promise you’ll never ever sin again? If you answer yes, then you lied and that my dear is a sin. If you answer no and admit you will sin again then why should God even allow you in His Holy presence. This is exactly why sent He sent His Son to stand in our behalf. We are only made righteous before a merciful and just God through our Savior Jesus Christ. John 3:16 “for God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten son, that whosoever believeth in Him should not perish, but have everlasting life”. It’s beautiful and simple. Grace is a free gift, you can’t earn it, because it will no longer be a gift.
As for Paul…why would an Almighty, All Knowing God allow Paul to write over half of the New Testament if he was a false teacher? Are you saying God is not capable of of keeping his Word? That’s not the God I worship. He chose and inspired Paul (and others) to keep His Word, from start to finish. Even today He protects His Word. The 1611 KJV, is the same KJV Bible we have today In 2021, and that is proof He is still in control of His Word.
Galen have you read “The Miracle of Forgiveness”? The book went out of print in 2015 and is no longer part of the approved missionary library”. Why? Because of its rape shaming content. The Association of Mormon Counselors and Psychotherapist, felt the useful content was overshadowed by all the victim blaming, and trying to live up to the need to be perfectly obedient.
Well Galen I would love to hear back from you. I pray you read this and have a better understanding grace alone. God loves you and offers His grace freely.
Hi Galen, Wow, that was a lot… where do I begin?
Let’s start with grace alone. If we could stop sinning and be absolutely perfect, then we wouldn’t need a Savior.
A huge misconception about grace alone is that some believe it gives us a license to sin, as if it were a get out of jail free pass. And that’s not true. If someone believes this concept then they don’t understand, and are probably not saved. A saved Christian who admits they’re a sinner (and has no hope on their own merits), repents and accepts Jesus as there Lord and Savior, knows because they fall short, and without the blood of Jesus, they can never be reconciled to God. Jesus already stood in our place, and paid our sin debt in full. Ephesians 2: 8-9. But it doesn’t sound like you’re a fan of Paul.
You mentioned the rich ruler parable… maybe the LDS church should take heed and get rid of their 120 + BILLION DOLLAR stock pile. That kind of money sure could help a lot of people, after all as you said you can’t serve 2 masters.
Amazing Grace how sweet the sound that saved a wretch like me. The writer of this beautiful song gets it. Will you do me a favor…I don’t care if you already know all the word to this song but, where ever you are just pull this song up on your phone or computer, close your eyes and just listen.
Thank you Galen for commenting.
Save by grace, Melissa
