The Salt Lake Tribune reported on the Church’s stats for last year, and boy was it ever worthy of attention!
2018 was a dubious year for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. They saw 140,868 members leave their fold. In addition to that news, the Church also set another record.
There was a mere net increase of 194,000 members. The Trib stated that according to Matt Martinich, ‘This is the lowest net increase in church membership since 1978’. It seems that every year brings worse news than the previous year. We see it as a praise that people are seeing the truth, and sad at the same time. When you’ve invested everything you have into something like this, it’s devastating when you come to accept the truth.
We’ll be looking at the other specifics, and have them ready for you tomorrow so be sure to check back!
Today we’re asking people pray that those who’ve left the Church come to a saving knowledge in Christ Jesus and Him crucified!
With Love in Christ;
Michelle
Wow. Praise God! I thought it was 1500!!!! So this is way better
Yeah, we knew the numbers were high, but this was a big surprise! It’s bittersweet in many ways – just praying those who’ve left will know Him. 🙂
Michelle
You should really be looking into the reasons why we left. Its a real eye opener. I mean after all when your first prophet marries underage girls of 14, translates the papyrus from the book of abraham which was proven to be fals translation…..that among a million other things that literally disprove every foundation the church was founded on…..I think your the ones who are blind.
Hi anonymous –
Glad you visited our blog – thanks!
I think you might be a bit confused about our blog and message. Our entire message is encouraging people to do their homework and investigate Joe Smith and the teachings of the Church.
Know that we’re praying for you!
Michelle
“AND YE SHALL KNOW THE TRUTH AND THE TRUTH WILL MAKE YOU FREE”.(John 8:32). Losing so many people is why the church has gone to 2 hour sacrament meetings and cut down the requirements for Home Teaching. The church was losing large number of members in 2013, Church leaders then decided to lower the missionary age requirement to 18. There was ,increase in over 20,000 missionaries and yet, only a 4% increase in number of baptisms.. The church leaders just don’t get it. Why you ask? “”The people draw nigh unto me with their mouth, but their hearts are far from me. But in vain they do worship me, TEACHING FOR DOCTRINES THE COMMANDMENTS OF MEN. Let them alone, they be blind leaders of the blind. And if the blind lead the blind, both they shall fall in a ditch (Mathew 15:8,9,14)
Church leaders will now be in their accusatory mode; blaming the rank and file for lacking faith, not being good friends, especially to the new members, not praying enough, NOT TITHING ENOUGH, not going to the temple enough etc. The realty is, the General Authorities have no clue on what is going on in their own church. I do believe, however, there might be a GA or two who actually understands what is going on, but will nevertheless keep silent for fear of destroying others faith.
they can be accusatory, but the results of their gospel speaks for itself. Thankfully Jesus is guiding people out like he did for Beverly who wrote to us in response to our article. 🙂

I was one who left, and came to know Jesus. I was baptized in February and am loving the Christian life. I pray for these numbers to continue increasing as more faithful LDS members are brought to the knowledge of the Biblical Christ.
Oh Beverly PTL!!!!
I am so humbled each time I hear from those like yourself! It’ll be an amazing journey my friend just you wait!!!
Please, let us hear about your story and how you decided to leave the Church for Jesus.
In Him,
Michelle
Beverly. Did you officially resign your membership or just quit going to church? I am still a member, but haven’t been to church in many months.
wow a net increase of 194,000 even after so many have turned their back on the Church. That is amazing when all other Christian denominations are decreasing, LDS are increasing. Praise God.
Many continue to leave. Please keep a new ministry initiative in your prayers to reach them: tilm.org/jie
