What is Zion? Joseph Smith Lecture Series 1972-1973 “The worst sinners, according to Jesus, are not the harlots and publicans, but the religious leaders with their insistence on proper dress and grooming, their careful observance of all the rules, their precious concern for status symbols, their strict legality, their pious patriotism…the haircut becomes the test of virtue in a world where Satan deceives and rules by appearance.” — Hugh Nibley
Colossians 2:16-17 “Let no man therefore judge you in meat, or in drink, or in respect of an holyday, or of the new moon, or of the sabbath days: 17 Which are a shadow of things to come; but the body is of Christ.”
Well, if that’s not the pot calling the kettle black…
Mr. Nibley’s warning is a great wake up call for Mormons — it’s too bad he never applied his insight to himself.
A still better warning for the Saints would be to explain how we’re saved by grace through faith, which Paul spoke of in his prison letters found in Ephesians, Philippians, Colossians, and Philemon.
In a loving manner, do share Paul’s loving warning with the Mormon you know!
With Love in Christ;
Michelle
Looks to me like old Hugh got a wakeup call somewhere along the line. Who knows, it is possible that Hugh could have been a Mormon leader that knew the church was wrong, but continued the charade so that he didn’t hurt the faith of many members. Maybe Hugh was humble enough to really cry out to God for the wisdom and understanding to really see, from God’s eyes, what the Mormon church was really all about (Read Proverbs 2: 2-6)
How is it calling the kettle black?
Also the image posted destroyed the power of the quote because it removes JESUS and how satan deceives. Now removing the part about jesus and posting it on a site with the purpose of leading people to the “true jesus” is an actual irony.
