Millennial Star, No. 15, Vol. 15, April 9, 1853, p. 227 “… the one-wife system not only degenerates the human family, both physically and intellectually, but it is entirely incompatible with philosophical notions of immortality; it is a lure to temptation, and has always proved a curse to people.” — Samuel Whitney Richards
Matthew 19:5 “And said, For this cause shall a man leave father and mother, and shall cleave to his wife: and they twain shall be one flesh?”
Questions for today:
How could monogamy corrupt someone when Jesus clearly said a man shall cleave to his ‘wife’?
Where in the Bible does it say God expects mankind to practice polygamy?
If polygamy is okay, why did Jesus say if you look at a woman with lust you’re guilty of adultery? Matthew 5:27-28
Mr. Richards was the president of the British Mission and editor for the Millennial Star, just as his brother, Franklin Dewey Richards had done previously. He was obviously very familiar with the doctrines of Mormonism.
Richards’ 2nd wife, Mary Ann Parker, was the niece of his 1st wife, Mary Haskin Parker. He had a total of six wives, and 19 kids.
This may seem like an outdated LDS reference, but their canon still commands polygamy in D&C 132:4, and all Mormons expect to practice polygamy in heaven.
Ask the Mormon you know if they believe monogamy corrupts a person, and share the truth of what God expects from us!
With Love in Christ;

Hi Kirkrim: Apparently, women are not allowed to have multiple husbands, probably because they are not ordained priests
