Unwise LDS Debase Jesus on FB

Matthew 2:1-3, 7, 10-11 “Now when Jesus was born in Bethlehem of Judaea in the days of Herod the king, behold, there came wise men from the east to Jerusalem, 2 Saying, Where is he that is born King of the Jews? for we have seen his star in the east, and are come to worship him. 3 When Herod the king had heard these things, he was troubled, and all Jerusalem with him. 7 Then Herod, when he had privily called the wise men, enquired of them diligently what time the star appeared. 10 When they saw the star, they rejoiced with exceeding great joy. 11 And when they were come into the house, they saw the young child with Mary his mother, and fell down, and worshipped him: and when they had opened their treasures, they presented unto him gifts; gold, and frankincense, and myrrh.”

LDS Facebook “Three Wise Men…Latter-day Saints Standing United”

The other day Melissa sent me an e-mail about a post she saw on the Church’s FB page.

The page showed a picture of the top three Mormon leaders, Russell Nelson, Dallin Oaks, and Henry Eyring. Above their image was the caption ‘THREE WISE MEN’.

To say I was appalled would be an understatement, surprised, I was not. In response, I’ve listed short insights from two commentaries. They’re very telling in light of what the Church has done.

Matthew Henry Commentary ~

“They presented themselves to him: they fell down, and worshipped him. We do not read that they gave such honour to Herod, though he was in the height of his royal grandeur; but to this babe they gave this honour, not only as to a king (then they would have done the same to Herod), but as to a God. Note, All that have found Christ fall down before him; they adore him, and submit themselves to him. … Let the hearts of those rejoice that seek the Lord, Psalm 105:3.

…With ourselves, we must give up all that we have to Jesus Christ; and if we be sincere in the surrender of ourselves to him, we shall not be unwilling to part with what is dearest to us, and most valuable, to him and for him; nor are our gifts accepted, unless we first present ourselves to him living sacrifices.” — Matthew Henry Commentary

Pulpit Commentary ~

“Duplicity was very characteristic of Herod; cf. his assassination of Aristobulus the high priest (Josephus, ‘Ant.,’ 15:03. 3), and his alluring his son Antipater home to death (ibid., 17:5. 1).”

They obviously don’t care at all about the trouble our Lord went through for us. Nor do they stop to study the tremendous way God orchestrated events in history to announce the Savior had arrived. They, like Herod, did not fall to their knees and worship Him. The question begs to be asked…

Why didn’t they point to Christ Jesus? They had the perfect platform, the money to grab attention, and instead, they pointed to themselves ~ fallible men. Shame, shame, shame on them!
