January 6 — Secret Oaths Guised as Godly Obedience. Luke 12:2-3 “For there is nothing covered, that shall not be revealed; neither hid, that shall not be known. 3 Therefore whatsoever ye have spoken in darkness shall be heard in the light; and that which ye have spoken in the ear in closets shall be proclaimed upon the housetops.”

The words of our Lord are a sure comfort to many. They’re certainly something the Church wouldn’t use in any of their talks. The LDS reference today is a talk by Boyd Packer who didn’t bother to tell the audience some of the words he used (health in their navel and marrow to their bones) are Masonic secret oaths Mormons use in their temple ceremonies. The reference in D&C 89 is another secret reference to Joe Smith’s treasure digging days.
Lovingly remind the Mormon you know Jesus also said we shouldn’t swear oaths to anyone at any time Matthew 5:34.
Today is a great example of how Jesus’ words all come to fruition!

“Read section 89 in the Doctrine and Covenants. You will find great promises: ‘All saints who remember to keep and do these sayings, walking in obedience to the commandments, shall receive health in their navel and marrow to their bones; ‘And shall find wisdom and great treasures of knowledge, even hidden treasures; ‘And shall run and not be weary, and shall walk and not faint.’” — Boyd K. Packer Ensign, ‘Counsel to Young Men,’ May 2009, 50
“Have nothing to do with the fruitless deeds of darkness, but rather expose them. It is shameful to even mention what the disobedient to in secret. By thieving will be exposed by the light and everything that is illuminated becomes a light.” (Ephesians 5:11-15)
This verse, of course, sort of reminds me of all the secrecy the Mormon Church stands for. Secret Temple Rituals and a refusal to reveal the churches financial dealings to it’s members. Eventually, all the “Secret Things” of the church are going to be revealed by the Light of Christ, exposing the church for what it really is.
