Church News, June 2012 “Be we reminded that the gathering of Israel is not the ultimate endpoint. It is but the beginning. The true endpoint is eternal life. It is that God’s children, in a covenant relationship with Him either by lineage or by adoption, will be able to dwell with Him and their families forever. That is God’s glory—eternal life for His children!” — Russell M. Nelson
Romans 9:7-8 “Neither, because they are the seed of Abraham, are they all children: but, In Isaac shall thy seed be called. 8 That is, They which are the children of the flesh, these are not the children of God: but the children of the promise are counted for the seed.”
Until the time we accept Jesus as our Lord and God, we’re not a child of God, and the only inheritance we have is God’s wrath.
In Romans 8:13-17 Paul explains why true believers have the spirit of adoption, and points out those who don’t live this way, live a life of bondage and fear.
The spirit of adoption comes with assurance of knowing we are saved.
The apostle John also explained this in his gospel –
John 1:12-13 “But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name: 13 Which were born, not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God.”
There are several other places in scripture describing the importance of being adopted by God (Gal. 4:3-4, etc.), and all these contradict what then apostle, now prophet, told his audience at a missionary training meeting.
Being adopted by God is a fundamental part of understanding the gospel – don’t forget to lovingly explain this to a Mormon you know!
Mr. Nelson did a great disservice with his lies when he told future missionaries eternal life can be received through your lineage.
We’ve barely scratched the surface on the importance of this topic so we’ll take a deeper look at this again in the near future – be sure to check back soon!
With Love in Christ;
Michelle
I always wonder why Mormons would have to be adopted if they are already children of God in the pre-birth time!
AMEN!!!
