The Articles of Faith, p. 97 “…being the Mediator between God and man. He becomes by right the Dictator and Director on earth and in heaven for the living and for the dead, for the past, the present, and the future, pertaining to man as associated with this earth or the heavens, in time or eternity, the Captain of our salvation, the Apostle and High Priest of our profession, the Lord and Giver of life.” — Mediation and Atonement, p. 171.” — James E. Talmage, 1899
Hebrews 2:10 “For it became him, for whom are all things, and by whom are all things, in bringing many sons unto glory, to make the captain of their salvation perfect through sufferings.”
Although written in 1899, Mr. Talmage’s work is still widely used today. He simply expounded on the blasphemous works of Joseph Smith.
A few things came to mind when I saw what he said.
1.It’s impossible to have a mediator when someone over you is a dictator.
2.Jesus can’t be the ‘captain of salvation’ if the prophet of the Church is the one LDS members must follow.
3.Jesus can’t be the ‘high priest’ of confession when LDS members must confess Mormonism (including Joseph Smith) is the only path to salvation.
4.The Mormon Jesus can’t be the ‘giver of life’ when it’s believed he’s merely an ‘elder brother’.
5.After searching numerous bible dictionaries, lexicons, and concordances, I found no reference to Jesus as a dictator.
Dictionary.com defines dictator as ‘a person exercising absolute power, especially a ruler who has absolute, unrestricted control in a government without hereditary succession’.
While people like Hitler, Mussolini, and Stalin weren’t around in 1899, other dictators dotted history’s landscape with the likes of Napoleon. The use of this word is rather telling as it shows a blatant disregard of whom Jesus is, and His love for us. Ironically (or maybe not), their apostle Heber C. Kimball referred to himself as a dictator to his wives. Oh, what a tangled web we weave…
Be sure to share the meaning of Hebrews 2:10 with a Mormon today by using demonstrative evidence from His word, and your own life!
With Love in Christ;
Michelle
