LDS Prophet: Jesus’ Definition of ‘Gospel’ Falls Short

‘For the Son of man is come to seek and to save that which was lost.’ Luke 19:10

General Conference, ‘A Testimony of the Book of Mormon’ October 1999 “This unique mortal mission of the Lord—the gospel as He defined it—we know as the Atonement. The fulness of the gospel, therefore, connotes a fuller comprehension of the Atonement. This we do not obtain from the Bible alone. The word atonement, in any of its forms, is mentioned only once in the King James Version of the New Testament. In the Book of Mormon, it appears 39 times! The Book of Mormon also contains more references to the Resurrection than does the Bible.” — Russell Nelson

Romans 5:11 “And not only so, but we also joy in God through our Lord Jesus Christ, by whom we have now received the atonement.”

Mr. Nelson’s claim reveals his lack of respect, and knowledge of the true God of the Bible. It’s been over 20 years since he made his comment, and still there’s been no retraction.

The word atonement, and its derivatives is in the BoM more times than the NT, however, the majority of those are found in the BC era of the BoM.

For the record –

Although the word atonement is only in the NT 1x, it’s in the OT 69 times.

In the BoM, the word appears 37 times in the BC era, and 2 times in the NT era.

As my husband Kirk also pointed out – there were many things not written that would have filled the earth – John 21:25.

Besides all that, we’re pretty sure the Lord knew what should be written in the Bible, and what words should be used to convey His message of His gospel.

The level of deceit is alarming with this man, Mr. Nelson, who now claims he’s a prophet. We’re praying he’ll stop misleading members of the Church, and get saved!

Pray with us, won’t you?
