Rejecting Jesus with Self Reliance and Temples

Coming to Ourselves: The Sacrament, the Temple, and Sacrifice in Service“, General Conference, Apr. 2012 “We become converted and spiritually self-reliant as we prayerfully live our covenants—through worthily partaking of the sacrament, being worthy of a temple recommend, and sacrificing to serve others.”  —Elder Robert D. Hales

2 Cor. 3:5 “Not that we are sufficient of ourselves to think any thing as of ourselves; but our sufficiency is of God; 6 Who also hath made us able ministers of the new testament; not of the letter, but of the spirit: for the letter killeth, but the spirit giveth life.”

Isaiah 2:17 “And the loftiness of man shall be bowed down, and the haughtiness of men shall be made low: and the LORD alone shall be exalted in that day.”

God does the converting, not man. Psalm 19:7a says; “The law of the LORD is perfect, converting the soul…”  How could we as man ever think we are the ones who can convert others or ourselves by becoming self-reliant of all things?

If we’re self-reliant to become more holy, worthy, etc., then why would we need God in the first place?

Share the biblical reasons with the Mormon you know why Mr. Hales’ talk is wrong on many levels.

Also ask why they need temples when the Bible tells us that believers are God’s temple in 1 Cor. 3:16, 6:19.
