1 Corinthians 15:1-4 “Moreover, brethren, I declare unto you the gospel which I preached unto you, which also ye have received, and wherein ye stand; 2 By which also ye are saved, if ye keep in memory what I preached unto you, unless ye have believed in vain. 3 For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures; 4 And that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures.”
1830 ed., Alma 5:48; “I say unto you, that I know of myself that whatsoever I shall say unto you concerning that which is to come, is true; and I say unto you, that I know that Jesus Christ shall come; yea, the Son of the only begotten of the Father, full of grace, and mercy, and truth. And behold, it is he that cometh to take away the sins of the world; yea, the sins of every man which steadfastly believeth on his name.” [emp. added]
Today we have a few questions about the original text to the Book of Mormon from 1830 and we’d love to hear what your questions might be as well! We originally posted this in 2016 and yet the Church hasn’t denounced their trickeries, let alone confessed them.
1.The 1830 BoM says Jesus will come, and he ‘is the son of the only begotten of the Father’. If that’s true, how did Jesus become his own son?
2.If the Mormon Jesus isn’t his own son, who’s the father of the Mormon Jesus?
3.If Jesus is the son of the ‘only begotten’, just who is the ‘only begotten of the Father’?
4.Does this mean Jesus isn’t the only begotten of the Father?
5.Out of curiosity, we’re wondering how much time the Church has spent on cleaning up ‘the most correct book on the face of the earth’…
By the time 2013 rolled around, the Church fixed Smith’s error with the simple use of a comma. …sigh…
2013 ed., Alma 5:48; “I say unto you, that I know of myself that whatsoever I shall say unto you, concerning that which is to come, is true; and I say unto you, that I know that Jesus Christ shall come, yea, the Son, the Only Begotten of the Father, full of grace, and mercy, and truth. And behold, it is he that cometh to take away the sins of the world, yea, the sins of every man who steadfastly believeth on his name.” [emp. mine]
More than 2,000 years later we can see how the Apostle Paul’s warning to Timothy is still valid today. The key to understanding this is based upon knowing the content of the gospel, which entails all of God’s word!
2 Timothy 3:13-14; “But evil men and seducers shall wax worse and worse, deceiving, and being deceived. 14 But continue thou in the things which thou hast learned and hast been assured of, knowing of whom thou hast learned them”.
I’m reminded of what RC Sproul once said, “The gospel is only good news when we understand the bad news.”
Pray with us that Mormons will begin trusting all of His word, and not just words or phrases they’ve arbitrarily used for their own benefit!
