Gospel and Our Righteousness Brings Peace

July 20 — Gospel and Our Righteousness Brings Peace. Isaiah 26:3 “You will keep in perfect peace the mind that is dependent on You, for it is trusting in You.”

____________

The transliteration for peace is shâlôm. It means perfect, to be safe, complete in all things – mind, body, and soul. (Strong’s Hebrew and Greek Concordance) One author pointed out ‘The double use of the word multiplies its intensity’. *

I have two dear friends who end their e-mails to me with ‘shâlôm’, which I’ve always found endearing. Just seeing the word gives me pause in a hectic day.

While part of the LDS reference today is almost correct, still, there’s the overwhelming scar of deception. Peace comes through knowing Christ because it’s a fruit of the Spirit (Galatians 5:22-23). Indeed, knowing Him will bring true peace, but our own so-called ‘righteousness’ is nothing but filthy rags (Isaiah 64:6).

Gospel Topics, Peace “Many people think of peace as the absence of war. But we can feel peace even in times of war, and we can lack peace even when no war is raging. The mere absence of conflict is not enough to bring peace to our hearts. Peace comes through the gospel—through the Atonement of Jesus Christ, the ministration of the Holy Ghost, and our own righteousness, sincere repentance, and diligent service.”
