July 30 — The Price of not Knowing Doctrine. John 7:17 “If any man will do His will, he shall know of the doctrine…”
_____
If we want to do the will of the Lord, surely, we’d want to know how to go about it. This would mean knowing His word — this is how He communicates with us, and how we build trust in Him.
On the other side of the spectrum is our LDS reference today.
We can know with certainty Joe Smith’s gospel was anything but correct. Earlier in the BoM passage below, Nephi claimed the Israelites were living righteously, and obeyed all of God’s laws before they were carried off into captivity into Babylon (see 1 N 17:22). Adding insult to injury is the missing info in the BoM reference about Moses striking the rock.
Moses was prevented from entering the Promised Land because of not obeying what God told him to do. He chose to strike the rock, instead of speaking to the rock. Afterwards, he chose to take credit for bringing water out of the rock. Numbers 20:8-12. While God still used Moses mightily, he paid a heavy price for his disobedience.
Don’t pass up the opportunity to share Moses’ experience with the Mormon you know! Share how important it is to trust the Lord, and His provision to us – this means His infallible word.
