‘I am Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the ending, saith the Lord, which is, and which was, and which is to come, the Almighty.’ Revelation 1:8
3 Nephi 9:18 “I am the light and the life of the world. I am Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the end.” — 34 AD
John 8:12 “Then spake Jesus again unto them, saying, I am the light of the world: he that followeth me shall not walk in darkness, but shall have the light of life.”
Revelation 22:13 “I am Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the end, the first and the last.”
The topic for today’s post came about from a Jeopardy rerun I watched several days ago. The host for this particular broadcast was Ken Jennings.
An answer to one of the questions stated you can find the term Alpha and Omega in the book of Revelation. In light of their topic we have three questions when it comes to Mormon theology.
1.How does the Church explain godhood status when Jesus said He is Alpha and Omega?
2.The passage in Nephi supposedly took place in 34 AD. Jesus told His disciples He is the light of the world in 33 AD and told John He was Alpha and Omega c. 90 AD.
Nephi’s plagiarism becomes a glaring problem with the anachronism we see in just one BoM verse.
3.Would Jesus repeat Himself in 34 AD with Nephi and then do this again with the apostle John in Patmos in 90 AD?
1 Corinthians 14:33 tells us that God is not the author of confusion. This leaves us with only one option of where the passage in Nephi came from – that would be the father of lies – John 8:44.
When I watched Ken Jennings repeat the info about what it says in Revelation my heart hurt for him. I couldn’t help but wonder if he stopped to think about the meaning of Alpha and Omega. Remember beloved, this isn’t about how smart someone is, rather it’s about the powers and principalities of the air as it says in Ephesians 6:12.
Pray that he and all Mormons would see the problem and come to a saving knowledge of Christ Jesus and Him crucified!
With Love in Christ —
Michelle
