Polygamy Requires Subservient, Passive Women

“Now the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, that ye may abound in hope, through the power of the Holy Ghost.” Romans 15:13

Journal of Discourses 4:256 “I say to the sisters, seek to have confidence in your husbands, and believe that they are capable of leading you…and be faithful, humble, and obedient to them. Their feelings should not be concentrated in you, but your feelings should be in them, and their’s should be in those who lead them in the Priesthood. … This is the order, and if order is maintained in this thing, you will see the beauty of it…

That should be a satisfaction to you, and it will be, if you are inspired by the right spirit and feeling. … the more they identify their interests and become subservient and passive in the hands of this Priesthood here, they will be, both men and women, the more satisfied and happy in this life…” — Daniel H. Wells, Delivered in the Tabernacle, Great Salt Lake City, March 1, 1857.

Exodus 20:14 “Thou shalt not commit adultery.”

Leviticus 18:18 “Neither shalt thou take a wife to her sister, to vex her, to uncover her nakedness, beside the other in her life time.” [emp. added]

Deuteronomy 17:17 “Neither shall he multiply wives to himself, that his heart turn not away: neither shall he greatly multiply to himself silver and gold.” [emp. added]

1 Timothy 3:2 “A bishop then must be blameless, the husband of one wife, vigilant, sober, of good behaviour, given to hospitality, apt to teach.” [emp. added]

1 Timothy 3:12 “Let the deacons be the husbands of one wife, ruling their children and their own houses well.” [emp. added]

Matthew 15:9 “But in vain they do worship me, teaching for doctrines the commandments of men.”

As you can see in our biblical references above there’s no allowance for poor behavior. There are plenty of examples where God’s word tells us not to add wives to yourself which makes the Church without excuse.

In light of what Mr. Wells said where in the Bible does it say women must be subservient to their polygamous husbands?

As the Bible reference states above we’re to be filled with peace and joy in the hope He gives to us. Is it reasonable for anyone to be filled with peace and joy if you’re not to question?

These men were not following the true God of the Bible just as they’re not doing so today.

Pray for those who are still living in such a nightmare and those who aren’t in polygamy. Living in this type of mindset isn’t peaceful, nor is it a joyful existence.

With Love in Christ —
