Why LDS Priesthoods are Pagan

January 8 — Why LDS Priesthoods are Pagan. Genesis 14:18 “And Melchizedek king of Salem brought forth bread and wine: and he was the priest of the most high God.”

Hebrews 7:2 “To whom also Abraham gave a tenth part of all; first being by interpretation King of righteousness, and after that also King of Salem, which is, King of peace.”

_____
A King also … the king of Salem referred to God as the ‘Most High God’. This term denotes absolute perfection, total sovereignty over all created things, and acknowledgement He is King over all kings of the earth.

These attributes are seen in our dear sweet Jesus who fulfilled all righteousness on the behalf of others so undeserving.

The author of Hebrews wanted to assure his Jewish fellowman the Levitical Priesthood was now in the safe hands of the only righteous King deserving of such an office and title.

The Levitical Priesthood was held in higher esteem than any other office in Israel and the thought of it not being in their hands was a most terrifying experience. Gone were the sacrifices and the veil in the temple; gone was the prestige they bathed themselves in while  wearing their ephods and bowing to the teraphim in their homes.

Their position left them most vulnerable from lack of direction, but God had warned them this day would come through His prophet; Hosea 3:4.

The epistle to the Hebrews was a last ditched effort, a beacon if you will, for Israel to pay attention. The Mighty God had fulfilled His promise through His Son, their Messiah.

Jesus was the righteous king and righteousness produces peace for those who choose to accept Him. Sadly, many in Israel looked the other way hoping to fulfill their own righteousness, much like the Mormons do today.

The similarities are striking. Their rules are made up as they go along and the doctrines of men are patently false. The priesthoods they bestow on each other shows how they’ve rejected God’s authority and the gift He gave through the life of His Son.

Gospel Doctrine, p 159; “MANY HOLD THE MELCHIZEDEK PRIESTHOOD…the Priesthood…is not confined to one man, nor to three men, nor to fifteen men, but that there are thousands of men in Zion who hold the Melchizedek Priesthood, which is after the order of the Son of God, and who possess keys of authority and power to minister for life and salvation among the people of the world.” – Joseph F. Smith
