Joseph Smith’s Failed Prophecy

May 9 — Joseph Smith’s Failed Prophecy. D&C 84:114 “Nevertheless, let the bishop go unto the city of New York, also to the city of Albany, and also to the city of Boston, and warn the people of those cities with the sound of the gospel, with a loud voice, of the desolation and utter abolishment which await them if they do reject these things.”

Jeremiah 14:14-15 “Then the LORD said unto me, The prophets prophesy lies in my name: I sent them not, neither have I commanded them, neither spake unto them: they prophesy unto you a false vision and divination, and a thing of nought, and the deceit of their heart. 15 Therefore thus saith the LORD concerning the prophets that prophesy in my name, and I sent them not, yet they say, Sword and famine shall not be in this land; By sword and famine shall those prophets be consumed.”

This prophecy was given in Kirtland, OH on September 22 & 23, 1832.

New York, Albany and Boston were obviously not destroyed.

For a moment just stop and think about this. The D&C reference above is part of the Mormon’s scripture. It’s been 193 years since Smith declared those cities would be destroyed.

This serves as another proof Smith should never be trusted.

How does this fit in with the everyday life for members of the Church like my mother?

As Christians we can open our Bibles and glean something for our lives. If/when a passage of scripture is difficult, we can go to a Bible concordance, dictionary or commentary for further insight.

With the D&C reference what do they do?

I don’t publish these things to mock members of the Church, rather, I do this because of my deep concern for the spiritual well-being of the Mormon people.

As you witness to them ask what they think of this false prophecy.

With Love in Christ –
