Being an Independent God and Savior to Self

Love mercy, eschew evil, be a savior to yourselves and to your families, and to your fellow beings just as much as you possibly can, and go on with your independence and do not yield yourselves servants to obey an evil principle or an evil being.” — April 28, 1872

Luke 18:9, 14 “And he spake this parable unto certain which trusted in themselves that they were righteous, and despised others…¹⁴ I tell you, this man went down to his house justified rather than the other: for every one that exalteth himself shall be abased; and he that humbleth himself shall be exalted.”

Brigham always had a lot to say about God. Unfortunately, it usually wasn’t good. This time around he chose to trick people into believing they could become their own savior and be independent.

God’s word is filled with numerous passages telling us there is only ONE God and there are NO other gods. Here are a few examples!

You’ll see the Synoptic Gospels alone tell us this at least 21 times. And then we have Isaiah where we found God declaring He alone is God 13 times and in Psalms 5 times.

Ps. 18:30, 50:6, 83:18, 90:2, 116:5

Is. 7:14, 9:6, 42:8, 43:10-11, 44:6, 8, 24, 45:5, 18, 21-22, 46:9

Matt. 1:23, 4:10, 28:19

Mark 12:29, 32

John 1:1-3, 14, 18, 3:16-17, 4:24, 8:58, 10:30, 33, 14:6, 15:5, 17:3

Brigham wasn’t following his own advice to eschew evil by telling people they could be their own savior! This is evil to the core.

Please pray they’d see how the Lord tells us there’s no other gods!
