General Conference, ‘We Believe All That God Has Revealed,’ April 1974 “…In the Church we do something that very few do any more: We read the Bible. And we are blessed with other scriptures, also books of revelation: The Book of Mormon, the Doctrine and Covenants, and the Pearl of Great Price.” — Boyd K. Packer (more…)

1 Peter 1:25 “But the word of the Lord endureth for ever. And this is the word which by the gospel is preached unto you.”

Journal of Discourses 2:75-76 “The words contained in this Bible are merely a history of what is gone by; it was never given to guide the servant of God in the course he should pursue, any more than the words and commandments of God, given to a generation under one set of circumstances, would serve for another generation under another set of circumstances…The Bible is not a sufficient guide; it is only the history of the people who lived 1800 years ago. The history of our Church in this day, presents the scenes and transactions of this people—the revelations and words of God to them…” – Orson Hyde, Salt Lake City, October 6, 1854

Doctrines of Salvation 1:186 “WHAT IS SCRIPTURE? When one of the brethren stands before a congregation of the people today, and the inspiration of the Lord is upon him, he speaks that which the Lord would have him speak. It is just as much scripture as anything you will find written in any of these records, and yet we call these the standard works of the Church. We depend, of course, upon the guidance of the brethren who are entitled to inspiration.” — Joseph Fielding Smith, 1954-1956 (more…)

Discourses of Brigham Young, selected and arranged by John A. Widtsoe [Salt Lake City: Deseret Book Co., 1954], pp. 191-193 “We have a holy reverence for and a belief in the Bible…I believe the words of the Bible are just what they are; but aside from that I believe the doctrines concerning salvation contained in that book are true, and that their observance will elevate any people, nation or family that dwells on the face of the earth. The doctrines contained in the Bible will lift to a superior condition all who observe them; they will impart to them knowledge, wisdom, charity, fill them with compassion and cause them to feel after the wants of those who are in distress, or in painful or degraded circumstances. They who observe the precepts contained in the Scriptures will be just and true and virtuous and peaceable at home and abroad. Follow out the doctrines of the Bible, and men will make splendid husbands, women excellent wives, and children will be obedient; they will make families happy and the nations wealthy and happy and lifted up above the things of this life. 13:175.” (more…)

One of the most egregious lies from Joseph Smith has to be his false claim that Jesus’ atonement for man’s sin took place in the Garden of Gethsemane.

D&C 19:18 “Which suffering caused myself, even God, the greatest of all, to tremble because of pain, and to bleed at every pore, and to suffer both body and spirit—and would that I might not drink the bitter cup, and shrink—”

2 Timothy 3:15 “And that from a child thou hast known the holy scriptures, which are able to make thee wise unto salvation through faith which is in Christ Jesus.”

Just as a photographer sets a client in the perfect pose for a picture, Mormons are conditioned to think in certain ways to reflect an image of whom they place their trust in for eternal salvation. By and large, that means their prophets. The prophet’s preeminent status is manifested in testimonies of devotion to Joe Smith, and the current living prophet.

You’d think the Bible would make the Saints’ list of what’s most important, considering they call themselves a Christian organization, but such is not the case. The most glaring problem aside from denouncing the Bible, is their ambiguity. This, we believe, is used as a tactic to confuse members, and investigators alike.  (more…)

Journal of Discourses 13:213-214 “Can we devise any other means and plan of salvation? We cannot. Will we do away with the Bible? We will not; though the Christian world are actually coming to the point that they will dismiss the Bible from their schools; and by and by they will dismiss it from their pulpits…

They cannot abide the doctrine contained in the Old and New Testament, “and,” say they, “we must alter and change it; it does not suit our condition. It was not written for us; it was written for people in days of old …

We cannot find books of that edition; some that have been altered and changed are plentiful. I mean King James’ translation, and that is good enough for me; it will answer my purpose. But how is it with the Christian world? Will it answer theirs? If it will, why do they not abide by it? … They would do so if they were honest and their belief was sincere. And it will have to be so with them if ever they gain admittance into the kingdom of God, for in the Bible are the words of life and salvation.” – Brigham Young, Salt Lake City, July 17, 1870 (more…)

1 John 2:19 “They went out from us, but they were not of us; for if they had been of us, they would no doubt have continued with us: but they went out, that they might be made manifest that they were not all of us.”

Today’s post stems from two things.

1.I found this speech in the Journal of Discourses Index under the title ‘Mormon Doctrine Conforms to the Bible’. I found it to be a good example of how the Church confuses people by using God’s word to fool them.

2.A post on our Facebook page from a Mormon asked me why I can’t leave the Church alone. George Cannon’s speech is a great example of why.

FYI:  My apologies for its length. Quickly scan and save the parts you find most useful. We feel this is of such vital import, it mustn’t be overlooked, and Christians should take heed to the dangerous way this church operates. The tactics employed by Mr. Cannon are in full use today. Proof is found in the missionary knocking on your door.

This speech in its entirety could easily be considered a book because of how lengthy it is. I’ve trimmed it considerably by pulling some of statements therein. To read it in full, see link below.

Journal of Discourses 22:260-269 “President Cannon having read the whole of the 12th Chapter of the Epistle of Paul to the Corinthians, said: It is a blessed thing for us who live in this day and age to have records in our midst which have come down from olden times…as containing principles of life and of salvation…In this respect the chapter which I have read from this book is of priceless worth…

Then, why pray tell, has the Church rejected God’s word? Articles of Faith #8. (more…)

Journal of Discourses 14:257 – 258; “These Greek and Hebrew manuscripts being transmitted from generation to generation, and transcribed and altered more or less, have fallen at length into the hands of the people of latter times in a state wherein they very much contradict each other. … I am astonished when I look at this Bible, to find it so correct; I am astonished, and it has been a mystery to me that it can be so correct with such an abundance of contradictions in the original manuscripts. As a general thing the meaning has not been altered much, but it has been altered sufficiently to produce all the confusion at present existing throughout Christendom.” – Orson Pratt, Salt Lake City, December 10, 1871

‘The grass withereth, the flower fadeth: but the word of our God shall stand for ever.’ Isaiah 40:8

Today we’re looking at the text found in the online LDS Bible Dictionary, which you can read via the link provided.

The reason for our study today stems from my belated discovery of the changes the LDS Church made to their online Bible Dictionary. I hadn’t realized they changed it again until I read an e-mail from good friends, Lee and Kathy Baker, as they were using it to give direction for a Christian wanting info.

We’ve taken pertinent things they said in their page and have inserted comments where/when necessary. Our response is in red font.

Today we’re doing things a little differently! I read this post on another Christian website and was so moved by it, I had to share it here! Enjoy!

Oh, and be sure to check out their blog because it’s well worth it!! 🙂 He’s a great author, and provides thought provoking articles you’ll love.

– Reblogged from Isaiah 53:5 Project

What can you do in 30 minutes?

How much can you read?
How much TV can you watch?
How many projects can you start and finish?
How many calls can you return?

Suppose you had 30 minutes.
Could you tell the story of the Bible in a half-hour?

Today we’re obviously doing things a little differently!

My ad hoc post for the day was inspired by the movie my family and I watched last night; ‘The Case for Christ’. While I’ve relied on Lee Stroebel’s great book numerous times over the years, it was equally appreciated to see the background of what prompted him to write it.

…The Word of God stands forever. Isaiah 40:8

The God of the Bible is so faithful.  He protects all that He creates.  He gives His Word to His people so that if they read it they will know the truth. Throughout  the Old Testament whenever the Bible which was written on scrolls was lost or even destroyed God preserved His Word.  Lost scrolls were found in the temple, of course, and then the people were called to listen to the Word being read to them. This happened at the beginning of the reign of King Josiah (2 Chron. 34:15).

When  the stone tablets with the 10 commandments, were broken by Moses, who was angry at the people’s blatant idolatry, God restored them. After Moses had reestablished control in the camp and the evil doers punished, God told him to return up the mountain with 2 new tablets to receive the written Word again.

2 Timothy 2:13; “If we believe not, yet he abideth faithful: he cannot deny himself.”

Ah, the Bible. Where would we be without it? Of equal import, where have you been with it?

All true believers know our Bibles are part of our daily existence, and because of that we’ve compiled a go-to list of verses you can share while witnessing of where the Bible has declared itself trustworthy and reliable.

In spite of the hundreds of bible verses declaring God’s word is dependable, leaders of the LDS Church  still think otherwise. The tentacles of their not-so-subtle disdain for God’s perfect word, have been firmly entrenched in the fertile soil of the Intermountain West since the mid nineteenth century. Cautionary directives like those from Orson Hyde reveal true Mormonism –

Matthew 16:18; “And I say also unto thee, That thou art Peter, and upon this rock I will build my church; and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it.”

germany-950-adOn your way to work today, how many Christian churches did you drive past?

When you went to church last week, did you remember to thank Him for each miracle you just witnessed?

Each time any of us sees another Christian, do we think of Jesus first, then give thanks for the miracle He performed? A church building alone stands as a testament to what He’s done, not to mention the people filling its pews!

Dear sweet Jesus told us in Matthew 16:18 the ‘gates of hell would not prevail’ against His church, yet it’s easy for us to take His words for granted (myself included). Not only do we live in a country that affords us the freedom to worship Him, we also have the freedom to either accept, or reject, what our Bibles tell us.

2 Corinthians 11:13-14; “For such are false apostles, deceitful workers,  transforming themselves into the apostles of Christ. 14 And no marvel; for Satan himself is transformed into an angel of light.”

Orson Pratt’s Works, Divine Authenticity of the Book of Mormon, p. 171

orson-pratts-worksOrson Pratt was a prolific writer, and spent the majority of his years proclaiming the Mormon gospel whenever the chance presented itself.

In the 1840’s Pratt lived and worked in Liverpool, England as the publisher, editor, and author of the Millennial Star, a Mormon owned newspaper filled with the latest news of the Church for members in Great Britain who couldn’t easily obtain stateside news.

From those writings, Pratt compiled a set of pamphlets he could easily distribute throughout his travels in the British Isles. The pamphlets were different compilations on the beliefs of the LDS Church, which of course elevated the Mormon Church and its prophet Joseph, while tearing down traditional Christianity. After his death, the book, Orson Pratt’s Works’, was published by the Church and contained a great portion of those pamphlets, along with other writings from the newspaper he published.

But these are written, that ye might believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God; and that believing ye might have life through his name. John 20:31

Song of Solomon Dead Sea ScrollWe all have a list of our most favorite places we’ve been to, or things we’ve seen in life. For some it might be the country our ancestors originally lived, or the landscape right out your own back door.

Up to 2006, I would’ve been hard pressed to choose just one favorite place because of the many  sites I’d already seen. That was, until.

Late that year, a worldwide tour of the Dead Sea Scrolls Exhibition made a stop in Seattle. Make no mistake, I was really looking forward to seeing some of the scrolls! What I didn’t know then is the effect it would have on not only me, but my family as well.

Hands down, it was the most incredible thing I’ve ever seen in my life. A profound reverence for God’s Holy Word filled rows of displays secured inside cases of thick glass, protecting the precious words from contaminants. Standing in front of each display triggered a dim light illuminating its contents, and turn off again as you walk away.

After living in, and traveling throughout Europe I had many cherished memories. Visiting sites like the Louvre (think Mona Lisa), the Walls of Babylon in the Berlin Pergamon, etc., each site produced an incredible picture of world history.

General Conference, ‘The Miracle of the Holy Bible,’ April 2007

m-russell-ballard-october-2016M Russell Ballard

“We are true and full believers in the Lord Jesus Christ and in His revealed word through the Holy Bible.

It is a miracle that we have the Bible’s powerful doctrine, principles, poetry, and stories. But most of all, it is a wonderful miracle that we have the account of the life, ministry, and words of Jesus, which was protected through the Dark Ages and through the conflicts of countless generations so that we may have it today.

Gospel Truth, p.324; “After the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints was organized, there were only two churches upon the earth. They were known respectively as the Church of the Lamb of God and Babylon. The various organizations which are called churches throughout Christiandom, though differing in their creeds and organizations, have one common origin. They belong to Babylon.” – George Q. Cannon

bible 3After adjusting to the reality of what true Mormonism is really like, you’ll find each ex-Mormon will have his/her own list of discoveries that was the most shocking for them personally. I have my own ‘Top 10’, and as time goes on I can’t get over how blatant their lies are, especially about the Bible.

In the past few years the Church has decided they’d like to include themselves in the annual ‘International Day of the Bible’ celebrations. We pray the reason we’ve brought attention to the Church’s activities would be apparent to the body of Christ!
