It goes without saying the life of a Mormon bishop is an exhausting one. If you’ve ever been a bishop, married to one or remotely familiar with a man who holds this position you can attest to that I’m sure.
The bishop plays a vital role in the Mormon Church, thus our attention to this and the inclusion of his position for our page and widget section! From interviewing his flock individually for certain things they need as a Mormon and visiting the invalid at hospitals to performing funeral sermons his life is filled with non-stop activities as he overlooks the needs of the congregation he’s been assigned to.
Bishops are much like pastors in the sense they’ve been put in charge over their local ward (congregation), but it doesn’t mean he has a degree in theology. It means the ward needed a new bishop and the Stake President called him to fill the empty slot.
Being a bishop means your life is at the beck and call of others at any time of the day or night for about five years. Oh and did I mention they do this all pro-bono? Not a dime from the Church’s deep pockets go towards any financial support for the bishop while performing his duties and keeping his secular job on top of it all.
