Polygamy

The United States census records from 1850 to 1940, and all available Church records, uniformly show a preponderance of males in Utah, and in the Church. Indeed, the excess in Utah has usually been larger than for the whole United States, as would be expected in a pioneer state. The births within the Church obey the usual population law — a slight excess of males. Orson Pratt, writing in 1853 from direct knowledge of Utah conditions, when the excess of females was supposedly the highest, declares against the opinion that females outnumbered the males in Utah. (The Seer, p. 110) The theory that plural marriage was a consequence of a surplus of female Church members fails from lack of evidence” (Evidences and Reconciliations, p.391).

While it seems our focus and posts on topics like polygamy aren’t of much value today, I can personally assure you they’re not!

Even though polygamy isn’t being openly practiced in mainstream Mormonism there’s still a lot of it around – even in Utah of all places…

The polygamists of YFZ Ranch in Texas garners a lot of attention when we see women and young girls dressed in pioneer style clothing, but those cases are getting the attention because of their clothing. The truth is that if you live in Utah or any of the surrounding states, chances are good that your neighbor is a polygamist. They have “normal” jobs, wear clothing just like you do and attend public schools.

In addition to that, they might even attend the local Mormon ward (congregation) they’re assigned to or fill the city council seat in your community. By and large the unknowing general population would be shocked if they knew just how many polygamists there are living in Utah alone.

Sometimes the large family next door is hiding a dark secret. If the dad isn’t around a lot and the mom and kids are, there might be a polygamist living there. The family might be just one of his wives and their kids while he has three or four other families in the same town.

Those polygamists along with the Warren Jeffs and Tom Greens we hear about in the news are practicing true Mormonism. The mainstream LDS Church has gone out of its way to publicly denounce the actions of polygamists and we find that strange.

It’s strange because Mormon scriptures still teach and proclaim that polygamy is the only way to true salvation. It’s strange because they’re denouncing the very thing Joseph Smith fought so hard for and was actually killed because of. The “principle” is the foundation of Mormonism.

We also find their reaction to be odd because of what Mormons do in the temple. If a male Mormon has a wife who has died he can marry another wife here on earth and have her sealed to him in heaven for eternity.  This means he’s busy building his polygamous family while here on earth and not breaking the laws of the land.

Mormonism has indeed evolved since the days of Joe and friends, but that should be expected. The whole church is founded on the premise that God is ever revealing himself to us and we can only learn “line upon line” and “precept upon precept”.  Ironically, if Smith, Young or any of the other early leaders of Mormonism were alive today, they wouldn’t qualify for a temple recommend.  Hmmm…whodda thunk?  I wonder if he’d still hold the rock star status he does…

Lies of the Relief Society

We’re asking why the Relief Society who promotes telling the truth would lie about Joseph Smith practicing polygamy. Several of the women who signed a declaration stating they weren’t practicing polygamy were actually doing just that by being married to Joseph Smith – all at the same time!

More Lies of the Relief Society

Four of the nineteen women who signed a document denying they practiced polygamy were actually married to Smith at the time. Additionally, at another RS meeting, 6 women who attended the very first Relief Society meeting were married to Smith.

Polygamous Mormon Temple Marriages Today by Helen Radkey

An investigation by author and researcher Helen Radkey finds that Mormons are doing the very thing they said they don’t do – perform marriages by proxy for the dead.  Proxy marriages for  people like Ivan the Terrible to King Edward VIII and Marilyn Monroe to Katheryn Hepburn are just a few of those who’ve been sealed for eternity to become Mormon gods someday.
