One of the most distinguishing marks of Mormonism is the lack of the cross in any of their church buildings and teachings. On the flip side, the one thing that unites Christians is the symbol of the cross and what it signifies. Mormons reject this premise and reject the idea they’re not a Christian organization.
Their defiance in not accepting that Jesus paid for their sins on the cross is one of the subjects we’re always pointing out to them. The lack of their acceptance should be a key indicator to everyone, especially Christians, there’s something wrong.
We’ve written about this several times and have listed those articles here so our readers can get a fuller understanding of how Mormons feel about the cross and the reason why they’ve rejected it.
The Missing Cross in Mormonism & Why Mormons Shied away from Passion of the Christ
The reaction of the LDS Church with Mel Gibson’s movie ‘The Passion of the Christ’. The Church emphatically told members to stay away because of its ‘R’ rating, but we highly doubt that’s the real reason!
This article and the one above it (Mormon Temple in Rome, Italy) deals with the Mormon temple in Rome and why they have a large cross on the front doors when the LDS Church rejects the cross.
The Cross; God’s Altar for the Sins of Man
A look at what Jesus meant when He used this phrase and what it means for the Mormon
The Mormons can put a gold statue of an angel that Joseph Smith reported to have seen, however, the symbol of our salvation, the cross and the precious blood that was shed on that cross, are somehow forgotten
The atonement of Jesus Christ and the teachings surrounding his sacrifice for mankind are central teachings in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. Our Church is named after the Savior because we believe that it is His true and restored Church on the earth. All of our teaching is centered on Christ, including the Book of Mormon, which, along with the Bible are testimonies of Jesus Christ. The Savior plays THE central role for all our teaching, our temple work, our ordinances, and even our music. Please inform yourself…and take a moment to study it out before making statements that are untrue. If you want to know if these things are true, ask God, and he will reveal the truth unto you….just as the scriptures command us to do. God Bless you in your love and testimony of Jesus Christ.
When a new convert comes into the Mormon church wilh very little knowledge of the Gospel and the Bible, they assume they are being told the truth. I was guided by God and found my way out of this cult, and it is a cult, they have changed the bible, they do not honor Jesus and it is Blasthemous to God, Jesus and the Holy Spirit.I learned by going into their history and learning of their so called religion, and I was shocked, I was deceived, the missionaries do not mention that God procreated with Mary and He is the real father of Jesus and God is a man just like you and me, he evolved to where he is today and we can all be Gods, there are many Gods. If you do not believe me go to their true doctrine, it is there!!
As a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day-Saints, who is aware of my church’s history and practices, I can fully testify that this is not true. We love Jesus Christ and He is the center of our church. We do not worship Joseph Smith or the current prophet, we worship Jesus. We believe in the cross and that it is significant, but the reason we don’t have crosses in our church buildings or around our necks is because we focus more on the resurrection of Jesus Christ than the death. We believe that He died for our sins and we love that. But, the most amazing part is Him being resurrected and therefore making it possible for us to be resurrected and live with Him again.
A Christian is anyone who believes in Christ. Members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day-Saints are Christians, just because we don’t practice the same things, or participate in the same things, or even believe some of the same things does not mean we’re not Christians. Catholics believe that the church is how you get to Heaven, yet the Protestants believe that only faith in Jesus will get you to Heaven. They each believe two things that are completely opposite of each other, yet they’re still Christians. So, while most Christians believe in worshiping the cross, we believe in worshiping the resurrection.(Again, we still believe in the cross and the death of Christ)
Hollaye Vladimiroff I’m sorry you had such a bad experience, but why would the missionaries have mentioned that God had procreated with Mary? We do not know how Jesus was put into Mary, all we know is that it was by the Holy Spirit. God never had sex with Mary. Also, don’t you believe in the Bible? Have you read it? Don’t you know that the story of Jesus’s miraculous birth is in the Bible? We do believe that God is the true father of Jesus Christ, but I thought all Christians believed that.
God has not revealed a lot of information on this subject, but, yes, we believe God was a man, like you and me, and progressed to become God. We also believe that we can become Gods. It is mentioned all throughout the scriptures that Jesus Christ will have all that His Father has and become like His Father. It is also mentioned throughout the scriptures that we are joint-heirs with Christ. If Christ receives all His Father has and becomes like His Father and we’re joint heirs, that means we will receive the same thing. Like I said, though, not a lot of information on this has been revealed.
Please, don’t take my word for it. Pray to God and ask Him if it’s true. I testify with all my heart, that if you truly pray with a desire to know, not just to prove the church wrong or find a fault but to truly want to know, God will answer you.
I love you all, you are all divine children of God, and my brothers and sisters. Love you!
“We believe we can become Gods”- Discourses of the Prophet Joseph Smith 1977 Pg 340-341 “We have assumed that God was God from all Eternity, I will refute this. You must learn to become Gods just as all Gods did before you.”
Question- In the farthermost eons of time and space, how did the first man come into existence who “Learned” to become the “First God?
I can tell you exactly how the first man from eons ago came into existence who learned to become “the first god” …he didn’t. God is the Great “I AM and there is only One I AM in the universe, he is nothing like a man, he is other. Exodus 3:14. Man was created by God and because of sin cannot obtain a status of the godhead of our Lord. God is the creator and we are the creations (Genesis 2:7).
I am so amazed that people talk about God when they have not even picked up the Bible to even get to know who he is! When was the last time you studied the Word of God? What does it say about a human being becoming a god like God? I can tell you, nothing!! No where in the Bible does it mention us as humans will ever obtain that status. This concept is from evil, Satan himself has set it in the mind of man, I’m thinking it must be out of pride!
The Bible, God’s word to us tells the story of creation, the fall and the plan of redemption to bring all back to him through his son Jesus, if they are willing. Forget the book of Morman because it will lead to not.
Read the Bible and ask God to show you his perfect will with a humble heart and God will change your life for the good. God loves his people that he created, why else would he sacrifice his only son for us!!
Psalms 139
A good book that I would recommend is
“Knowing God” by J.I. Packer
That is indeed a great book and I highly recommend it as well!
This is in reply to Member of LDS Saint 4/8/22
I would like to reply to your remark that you believe God was a man.
My question to you would be than who created this vast universe that we live in (Gen 1-2)? God is the “l AM” meaning he is the First and Last, no one came before him or after him!! (Isaiah 44:6-8). Just like he questioned Job (Job 38-41), there is none other like him. (Isaiah 46:9)
A God whose presence and scrutiny I could evade would be a small and trivial deity. The only true God is great and terribly, just because he is always with me and his eye is upon me and no other mortal man can ever become like him. Living becomes an amazing business when you realize that you spend every moment of your life in the sight and company of an omniscient, omnipresent Creator. (J.I.Packer pg.86 Knowing God)
No mortal man cannot and will not ever attain status of the godhead of the Almighty God, only in their dreams or their own minds will they ever be able to obtain this. This reminds me of Paul in Athens were he talks about the Unknown God, who in fact is God. Acts 17:28–29 (KJV 1900): For in him we live, and move, and have our being; as certain also of your own poets have said, For we are also his offspring. 29 Forasmuch then as we are the offspring of God, we ought not to think that the Godhead is like unto gold, or silver, or stone, graven by art and man’s device. The Unknown God is as much alive today as he was in Athens when Paul was alive and he isn’t giving up his godhead for gold, silver or stone image or man made of dust that we wipe away when we dust our furniture!! Yes, he made man from dust, what is dust??
I hope you study the truth of scripture, not the Morman books and that the Word of God will reveal to you his truth.
Read Jeremiah 17:9 about the heart.

Brenda
Well said Brenda & thanks for writing in!
I am worried that the removal of the angel Moroni from the temples is the first step to a new “prophecy” and crosses will be placed on both the temples and ward houses. Making them look like Christian buildings. This will confuse people even more when looking for a Christian Church.
