Godhood is Eternal Progression

Companion to Your Study of the New Testament: The Four Gospels: pg 121-122; “One of the definite and distinctive teachings of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is the principle of eternal progression. Carried to its ultimate conclusion, this principle indicates that through obedience to divine commandments, and by virtue of an eternal law that “like begets after its own kind,” it is possible for sons and daughters of God to become as he is. This doctrine of the potential godhood of mankind was clearly understood in biblical times but was lost to the world during the period of the great apostasy.”

Genesis 1:1; “In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth.”

Isn’t it interesting how you can get answers to those all important questions from the very first verse in the Bible?  I love it when that happens!  

Notice our text for the day.  It says “In the beginning God…”  What isn’t in the text speaks volumes about Him, who He is, and where He came from, what He does and doesn’t do.  He’s all alone in this verse with no council to answer to, no other brother gods to hang with.  Just God.  God taking care of business the way God does.  

He doesn’t owe us an explanation and yet He gives us one anyway.  In this verse He’s declared who He is and what He does.  He’s funny that way.  He calls and names things for what they are and lets us know He’s in charge while at the same time loving each and every one of us.
