Mormon Dilemma 304

Plural Marriage Isn’t True

Journal of Discourses, vol. 21, p. 296; “…the very moment that they are admitted to be true, it brings in plurality of marriage, and if plurality of marriage is not true or in other words, if a man has no divine right to marry two wives or more in this world, the marriage for eternity is not true, and your faith is all vain, and all the sealing ordinances and powers, pertaining to marriages for eternity are vain, worthless, good for nothing; for as sure as one is true the other also must be true. Amen.” – Orson Pratt, Salt Lake City, July 18, 1880

Deuteronomy 17:17; “Neither shall he multiply wives to himself, that his heart turn not away: neither shall he greatly multiply to himself silver and gold.”

So…the verse in Deuteronomy obviously blows Mr. Orson Pratt’s theory out the window. This is when my heart absolutely hurts for the Mormon people. If they’d just stop to think of the false prophecies, outrageous teachings and ungodly practices perhaps they’d take the time to find the Lord in His word.  It’s so clear and so loving but direct.

My youngest daughter refers to Deuteronomy as a love letter from God to us. How I pray the Mormon people would know this truth!
