Saints are the Saviors of the World

We must remember, however, that the Lord sent His Saints into the world ‘to be a light unto the world, and to be the saviors of men.’ (D&C 103:9.) This is a time when ‘Zion must arise and put on her beautiful garments.’ (D&C 82:14.) The contrast between the Church and the world will be increasingly marked in the future, which contrast, we hope, will cause the Church to be more attractive to those in the world who desire to live according to God’s plan for us, His children.” – Ezra Taft Benson

 

Matthew 5:14; “Ye are the light of the world. A city that is set on an hill cannot be hid.”

John 3:17; “For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved.”

John 8:12; “Then spake Jesus again unto them, saying, I am the light of the world: he that followeth me shall not walk in darkness, but shall have the light of life.”

Matthew Henry’s thoughts on the passage in Matthew give us great insight into what our position is in this world.

We are the light of the world by providing sound teachings of God already found in His word – Luke 12:3.

We are the light of the world by representing God’s promise to mankind that He would provide a Savior – Matthew 5:15

We are the light of the world through our lifestyles and not bringing shame upon His name – Matthew 5:16.

We are the light of the world through our conversations and bringing glory to God – John 5:35.

We are the light of the world by providing comfort to others in their time of need – Job 29:11.

We are the light of the world by giving a good report of God and His Son – 1 Peter 4:11.

We don’t shine the light on ourselves, nor do we pretend that we’re the salvation of mankind. 

We are the light pointing to the salvation God provided in His Son Christ Jesus.
