Mormon Dilemma 446

B.H. Roberts’ Assessment of Book of Mormon: Tale by a Child

Studies of the Book of Mormon, by B.H. Roberts, p. 251; “If from all that has gone before in Part 1, the view be taken that the Book of Mormon is merely of human origin… if it be assumed that he is the author of it, then it could be said there is much internal evidence in the book itself to sustain such a view.
“In the first place there is a certain lack of perspective in the things the book relates as history that points quite clearly to an underdeveloped mind as their origin.  The narrative proceeds in characteristic disregard of conditions necessary to its reasonableness, as if it were a tale told by a child, with utter disregard for consistency.”

John 6:44; “No man can come to me, except the Father which hath sent me draw him: and I will raise him up at the last day.”

Many times we get so caught up in the argument for the gospel that we forget Jesus’ teachings of who He is and why He came here and that was for the sole purpose of saving mankind. God put on flesh and presented us with a guidebook of how to live.  Somewhere along the way there have been those people in life who’ve made a profession of tricking people.

The renowned LDS apologist and historian BH Roberts was blunt in his assessment of the Book of Mormon and went so far as to publicly expose if you will, the probability that Smith made the whole thing up.

All of Mormonism from Smith’s first vision to the latest General Conference can be analyzed to death suffice it to say the leaders and the work hasn’t been called of by God.  There are too many variables to try and legitimize this “other gospel”.

The text in John tells us the Father draws us and we know from His word that He knows who will respond – Acts 15:18. We have to remember when it comes to following God it means we get rid of our own self. Our will to push back on everything comes from our sin nature and when we decide to follow Him we need to get rid of that.

Smith’s gospel is filled with the “I” word.  I don’t like the way this reads…I don’t care what the scholars say…I don’t believe the Bible is complete…I believe that people left out what I want you to know…

On and on it goes.  BH Roberts was chastised up one end and down the other for his analysis and while he did stay in the Church there’s a great takeaway for all in his insight. The Book of Mormon isn’t inspired and therefore not something that God has provided for a true child of God.
