Evolving Revelations of Joseph Smith Mormon Dilemma 466

Evolving Revelations of Joseph Smith

John 1:14 “And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us…”

Mosiah 7:27 “…that God should come down among the children of men, and take upon him flesh and blood, and go forth upon the face of the earth.”

Joseph Smith (Lectures on Faith: 5th Lecture 5:2) “…the Father being a personage of spirit, glory, and power, possessing all perfection and fulness. The Son… is also the express image and likeness of the personage of the Father, possessing all the fulness of the Father, or the same fulness with the Father; being begotten of him, and ordained from before the foundation of the world to be a propitiation for the sins of all those who should believe on his name. He is called the Son because of the flesh…possessing the same mind with the Father, which mind is the Holy Spirit that bears record of the Father and the Son. These three are one; or, in other words, these three constitute the great, matchless, governing and supreme power over all things…Do the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit constitute the Godhead? They do.”

The Lectures on Faith was listed as a set of seven theological points in the 1835 edition of Doctrine and Covenants. They’ve since been removed and as many believe, it’s because they contradict further revelations of Smith.

Originally they were presented to the School of the Prophets in 1834-1835 to help Mormon missionaries and other leaders to “qualify themselves to become messengers of Jesus…” HC 2:176.

So now we have to ask the obvious questions…

Is Jesus God or not?

What about the Holy Spirit?

What happened to the Triune God of the Bible?

When did Joseph Smith begin teaching the Holy Spirit wasn’t omnipresent, thereby limiting His omniscient power in the believer’s life?

And most importantly – why didn’t anyone call him on these heresies?

Why does the Book of Mormon still contain the contradictory teaching that God came here in the flesh if they don’t believe this today?
