Mormon Dilemma 688

No Criticism for Christianity?

Prophet Gordon B. Hinckley, interview with Richard Ostling, as quoted in Mormon America, pg 323; “We accept that as a statement which came to him [Joseph Smith’s vision in which he was told all other religions were “abominations”], which is printed, of course, and published in his history as a statement. But we go forward with a friendly relationship, with a respect for people everywhere and with an effort to accept them as we meet them and, where opportunity exists, to talk with them and explain to them what we believe…. We don’t criticize them for what they believe. We accept the good that comes of that understanding which they have, but we feel we having something to offer beyond what they have.” – Richard and Joan Ostling

Proverbs 4:24-27; “Put away from thee a froward mouth, and perverse lips put far from thee. 25 Let thine eyes look right on, and let thine eyelids look straight before thee. 26 Ponder the path of thy feet, and let all thy ways be established. 27 Turn not to the right hand nor to the left: remove thy foot from evil.”

Why must the leaders of Mormonism contradict themselves at every turn? Why can’t they openly state they don’t believe in historical Christianity and leave it at that?
