Mormon Dilemma 701

Christian Prayers to be Shunned

Mormon Doctrine, pg 585; “Those formal, written prayers which are commonly read by ministers, and those recited by lay church members in doing penance or seeking grace, are devoid of the true spirit of prayer and should be shunned. Frequently they are spoken without real intent; and their use keeps men from searching their own hearts in an attempt to pray in faith according to an approved pattern so that actual blessings may be gained from Deity.”

John 9:31; “Now we know that God heareth not sinners: but if any man be a worshipper of God, and doeth his will, him he heareth.”

Why would you shun the prayers of other Christians if you’re a Christian?  How does this man know the hearts of those who are praying are devoid of the Spirit?  Only God knows the thoughts and the hearts of men.

Why does there have to be an approved pattern for prayer? Isn’t this calling the kettle black?

This derogatory statement about Christianity was couched in the middle of teaching Mormons how to pray to God.  He couldn’t resist slamming the body of Christ while discussing something about their own faith.
