Loyalty or Death

Journal of Discourses 3:226; “The time is coming when justice will be laid to the line and righteousness to the plummet; when we shall take the old broad sword and ask, ‘Are you of God?’ and if you are not heartily on the Lord’s side, you will be hewn down.” – Brigham Young, Salt Lake City, March 2, 1856

Habakkuk 2:4; “Behold, his soul which is lifted up is not upright in him: but the just shall live by his faith.”

I think of this verse and others like it whenever I see the things Brigham and company would make. While most people would think they weren’t serious, nothing could be further from the truth.  Blood atonement for any apostate was alive and well in Utah at that time. 

As Christians we need to hold all thoughts captive to the obedience of Christ as Paul said in 2 Cor 10:5 and not worry ourselves about the affairs of what others do in life. 

If the Church was true why did Brigham Young need to threaten people?
