False Prophecies of Mormonism To be a Mason or Not to be a Mason

Evidences and Reconciliations, pg. 357-358; “Many of the Saints were Masons, such as Joseph’s brother Hyrum, Heber C. Kimball, Elijah Fordham, Newel K. Whitney, James Adams, and John C. Bennett. These members called attention to the spirit of brotherhood and brotherly love which are the foundations of Masonic fraternity… The people of the Church needed friends. The work in Nauvoo would be hindered if opposition to the Church were allowed to grow.” – John Widtsoe

Joseph Smith Chronology, pg. 218; “The Masonic Temple is dedicated, with 550 Masons from various parts of the world attending. The Nauvoo Brass Band parades from Henry Miller’s house to the hall. Worshipful Master Hyrum Smith dedicates the building; Erastus Snow, Dr. Goforth, and Joseph Smith also address the assembly.” – April 5, 1844

Gospel Doctrine, pg.110; “It is a well known truth that the counsel of the First Presidency of the Church, in all cases, has been and is against our brethren joining secret organizations for any purpose whatsoever, and that wherever any of them have already joined, they have been and are counseled to withdraw themselves from such organizations, as soon as circumstances permit and wisdom dictates.”

James 5:12; “But above all things, my brethren, swear not, neither by heaven, neither by the earth, neither by any other oath: but let your yea be yea; and your nay, nay; lest ye fall into condemnation.”

With all the conflicting messages what’s a Mormon to do? In recent years the Lodge has loosened its rules publicly announcing that Mormons are once again allowed fellowship in their local chapters.

But is this okay for a Christian?  The Mormons claim they’re a Christian organization so if they’re taking part in the oaths that say the only light comes from the Grand Master of the Lodge, is this okay?

And why did Joseph Smith say it was good to be members of the Lodge?

This is what opened the eyes of Melissa and her husband!  While watching a documentary on the History Channel about the Masonic Lodge they obviously picked up on the nuances and oaths that mirrored the oaths they’d both taken in the Washington, DC temple.  It didn’t take long before they exited the Church and accepted the real Jesus of the Bible.  PTL!
