False Prophecies of Mormonism Jaredites on Hill Cumorah

Ether 15:2; “He saw that there had been slain by the sword already nearly two millions of his people, and he began to sorrow in his heart; yea, there had been slain two millions of mighty men, and also their wives and their children.”

Galatians 1:6-8; “I marvel that ye are so soon removed from him that called you into the grace of Christ unto another gospel: 7 Which is not another; but there be some that trouble you, and would pervert the gospel of Christ. 8 But though we, or an angel from heaven, preach any other gospel unto you than that which we have preached unto you, let him be accursed.”

I loved being a Mormon. The whole concept of being part of a tight knit group where everyone holds the same ideals about God you do has warmed the hearts of many, present company included. That was until.

I held that belief until God started waking me up spiritually. Little questions went through my head over the years and when I began having an insatiable need of wanting to know more about Jesus those questions were no longer fleeting thoughts, but became serious issues as I began looking for more information on Jesus.

Some of my questions came from the historical perspective on the Book of Mormon.  I surmised that if the Book of Mormon held the story of why Lehi had to leave Jerusalem then by all accounts there should be some tangible evidence of historical value in the Bible to quench my curiosity. So today through the use of this ministry I ask some of the same questions I had 40 years ago.

Back in July we highlighted the unrealistic story of the Nephites who were supposedly killed on Hill Cumorah and this time around we’re taking a look at the story of the Jaredites who were also a great civilization and also killed on Hill Cumorah.

According to the Book of Mormon, the prophet Ether and author of his self named book was the grandson of Moron, King of the Jaredites.  Their story supposedly took place circa 2600 – 2100 BC.

The text tells us two million Jaredite soldiers were killed on this small plot of land. In addition to all those guys their wives and kids were also slain so this would bring us to a minimum of five million people.

Five million is the size of a large city so let’s look at some quick facts. New York City has a population of just over 8m and Los Angeles pales in comparison with fewer than 4m.

Is it reasonable to believe that over fivemillion people were killed on a hill that comprises 236 acres?  New York City is made up of 195,000 acres and they have a population of 8m.  Well, you can do the math…

Now we have two noteworthy, sizable cities that supposedly existed somewhere here on the American Continent and there’s absolutely no archaeological evidence to be had. Here’s what we posted about the Nephites in July;

Mormon 6:11; “And when they had gone through and hewn down all my people save it were twenty and four of us, (among whom was my son Moroni) and we having survived the dead of our people, did behold on the morrow, when the Lamanites had returned unto their camps, from the top of the hill Cumorah, the ten thousand of my people who were hewn down, being led in the front by me.”

There are a couple of things for us to observe in this passage.

Verses 11-14 in the BoM lists 13 people who were leading battalions of men in war. Each leader had 10,000 men he was in charge of and every single person was hewn down in the war.

Therefore, the BoM would have us believe 130,000 people were killed near Hill Cumorah and yet not one single shred of archaeological evidence has been discovered to verify this grand event.

The other problem is the number of Lamanites sitting atop Hill Cumorah.  The text says 10,000 Lamanites were camped up there.  10,000!   Does it look as if 10,000 or even 1,000 men could be camped up there? Imagine…

10,000 men

10,000 tents

Campfires

Food storage

Bathroom areas

Where did they all sit or stand or lie down?
