Mormon Dilemma 817 One Man Should Die for His People

I Nephi 4:13; “Behold the Lord slayeth the wicked to bring forth his righteous purposes. It is better that one man should perish than that a nation should dwindle and perish in unbelief.”

John 11:49-50; “And one of them, named Caiaphas, being the high priest that same year, said unto them, Ye know nothing at all, 50 Nor consider that it is expedient for us, that one man should die for the people, and that the whole nation perish not.”

So who was the man who died for his people?  Was it Laban or Jesus?

The above snippet from the Book of Mormon comes from the scenario when God told Nephi to kill Laban and the reason why was because Laban was “guarding” the original scrolls of the writings in the temple.

So Nephi killed Laban in order to get some of the scrolls and take them to America with them.  They believed they needed the scrolls in America to remember their fathers and traditions. Oddly enough though, not one single time does the BoM mention how they performed sacrifices or the times they should’ve observed feasts, etc.

How plausible is it these exact words would show up twice and how plausible is it the first time they showed up would be 600 years before Caiaphas would say the same thing to of all people Jesus Christ?

Why would Nephi say such a thing when he killed Laban and why would Nephi disobey the Mosaic Law by murdering someone?

What did Laban’s death do for the nation of Israel?
