God’s Plan Failed
1 Nephi 4:13; “Behold the Lord slayeth the wicked to bring forth his righteous purposes. It is better that one man should perish than that a nation should dwindle and perish in unbelief.”
James 4:2; “Ye lust, and have not: ye kill, and desire to have, and cannot obtain: ye fight and war, yet ye have not, because ye ask not.”
Now this story from the book of Nephi is when Nephi went to Laban’s home, found him passed out drunk and summarily decapitated the guy after feeling the Spirit of God told him to kill. Had this Nephi fellow gone to the God of Israel this probably wouldn’t have happened.
The problems in Joseph Smith’s narrative are many; suffice it to say this passage prophesies that Laban had to be killed so the nation of Israel would live. However, the problem is that every single member of the righteous Israelites turned Nephites died. Every single one.
Why did Laban have to die if all the Nephites died in the end? Wouldn’t God have known they were all going to die off?
