January 16 — Are Mormons Christians? Today we’re looking at a subject in the LDS Gospel Topic Section of their website. I’ve become quite enamored with how the Bible provides answers to topics that speak directly to contemporary issues for us today. It’s a reminder that God obviously knew beforehand! Notice in their statement they make the accusation that sincere seekers of truth will accept their variant belief. Furthermore, freedom to worship as you please doesn’t mean you’re exempt from following rules. If you’re not worshiping the right Jesus, it still means you’re not Christian, regardless of what freedoms you may or may not have. Pray that God will open their hearts to this truth! (more…)

Liahona, ‘Making Your Life a Soul-Stirring Journey of Personal Growth,’ December 2018 “It takes a special kind of faith to “believe that He will yet reveal many great and important things pertaining to the Kingdom,” and then to be ready to accept them, whatever they are. … This isn’t about knowing the names of the twelve tribes of Israel or diagramming the allegory of the olives trees, as useful as such exercises may be. This kind of learning is about changing ourselves, about being different (better) because we know more of what God knows. … …as we learn His will, as we gather light and truth and make it part of us every day, that light will grow in us, “brighter and brighter until the perfect day” (D&C 50:24; emphasis added) when we can be with Him because we will be like Him.” — Jeffrey R. First Presidency releases 2018 Christmas message “Following is the 2018 First Presidency Christmas message, released Dec. 6 and signed by President Russell M. Nelson, President Dallin H. Oaks and President Henry B. Eyring:

Our Savior, Jesus Christ, offers to us four incomparable gifts — the capacity to love others, the ability to forgive, the blessing of repentance and the promise of life everlasting. … They were made possible because Jehovah condescended to come to earth as the baby Jesus. He was born of an immortal Father and a mortal mother. He was born in Bethlehem under the most humble of circumstances. His was the holy birth foreseen by prophets since the days of Adam. Jesus Christ is God’s transcendent gift — the gift of the Father to all of His children. (See John 3:16.) We joyfully celebrate His birth this Christmas season.”

“All things were made by him; and without him was not any thing made that was made.” John 1:3

This was a week of inner reflection as America buried its 41st President, George HW Bush. The importance of who this man was couldn’t be missed in the regalia of numerous ceremonies honoring him, and the legacy he left behind.

Our prayers at the ministry this month is focused upon another man of much greater import we hope will capture the attention of every Mormon, and give pause as to Who He is in their own lives.

Jesus.

In Mormonism, descriptions of their Jesus are all over the board. They range from an imperfect, created polygamous brother of Satan, to a redeemer, albeit, without omnipotent power. Today we’re looking at what the Book of Mormon says about Him. Our list here is a partial one taken from an article we published several years ago, Jesus According to the Book of Mormon and the LDS Church.

The reason for this post today is to provide a concise go-to-list of LDS references you can use for witnessing to the Mormon in your life. There’s not much they can argue about because all references can be found right in the BoM they carry around with them every day.

As Dr. Walter Martin always said, ‘Use demonstrative evidence, not experiential reasoning, when you witness’. This isn’t a time for those goose-bump moments! To read the original list with 111 BoM and LDS references, click on the link provided above.

One thing we pray above all other things is for Christ Jesus to be glorified in all we do! We’ve also  included just a few biblical references denoting the greatness of Jesus you can share as you spend time with the Mormons. When we ran a Google search for bible verses on the greatness of Jesus, the shortest list we came across contained 217 references. You obviously won’t run out of things to share – God is good!

Let us know how we can pray for you, and those you witness to!

With Love in Christ;

Michelle

It seems we’ve focused much of our attention here at Life After on Jesus as of late! For us, that’s a good thing, and we’re praying as we embark upon the busy ‘holiday season’, Mormons will take a step back and hit the pause button to reflect upon who He is to them, and equally as important, who the Bible says He is!

Today we’re going back to the basics. I received an e-mail from a dear friend asking me if I could provide links to the resources in one of our articles. Because this is so heavy with references, we decided to post this as our article for today – along with the updates. Thanks go out to S. for making this request!

Our article my friend requested is ‘The Jesus of Mormonism’, and it comes from our ‘Foundation of Mormonism’ series. Here we go! (more…)

November 25 — The Lamb on the Throne. Zechariah 2:10-13; “Sing and rejoice, O daughter of Zion: for, lo, I come, and I will dwell in the midst of thee, saith the LORD. 11 And many nations shall be joined to the LORD in that day, and shall be my people: and I will dwell in the midst of thee, and thou shalt know that the LORD of hosts hath sent me unto thee. 12 And the LORD shall inherit Judah his portion in the holy land, and shall choose Jerusalem again. 13 Be silent, O all flesh, before the LORD: for he is raised up out of his holy habitation.”

Revelation 5:136:921:24; “And every creature which is in heaven, and on the earth, and under the earth, and such as are in the sea, and all that are in them, heard I saying, Blessing, and honour, and glory, and power, be unto him that sitteth upon the throne, and unto the Lamb forever and ever. 6:9 And when he had opened the fifth seal, I saw under the altar the souls of them that were slain for the word of God, and for the testimony which they held. 21:24  And the nations of them which are saved shall walk in the light of it: and the kings of the earth do bring their glory and honour into it.” (more…)

“This Day,” Conference April 2007 “It is hard to know when we have done enough for the Atonement to change our natures and so qualify us for eternal life. And we don’t know how many days we will have to give the service necessary for that mighty change to come. But we know that we will have days enough if only we don’t waste them.” Henry B. Eyring (more…)

October 21 –– Born of a virgin Jeremiah 31:22; “How long wilt thou go about, O thou backsliding daughter? for the LORD hath created a new thing in the earth, A woman shall compass a man.”

Matthew 1:18-20; “Now the birth of Jesus Christ was on this wise: When as his mother Mary was espoused to Joseph, before they came together, she was found with child of the Holy Ghost. 19 Then Joseph her husband, being a just man, and not willing to make her a public example, was minded to put her away privily. 20 But while he thought on these things, behold, the angel of the Lord appeared unto him in a dream, saying, Joseph, thou son of David, fear not to take unto thee Mary thy wife: for that which is conceived in her is of the Holy Ghost.” (more…)

Jude 24-25 “Now unto him that is able to keep you from falling, and to present you faultless before the presence of his glory with exceeding joy, 25 to the only wise God our Saviour, be glory and majesty, dominion and power, both now and ever. Amen.”

Today we’re looking at a speech I came across a few weeks ago while searching for a reference on another subject matter. For those who wonder where I find these seemingly ‘obscure’ things – this is how it happens!

This 2002 speech was given by Robert J. Matthews, who according to the BYU/LDS website said, he ‘was an emeritus professor of ancient scripture and former dean of religious education at Brigham Young University when this was published’. So with that behind us, check out what Mr. Matthews had to say about our Lord’s resurrection. For sure, this is another one of those headed for the ‘worst of the worst’…

January 5 –– No other son but Jesus. Isaiah 9:6-7 “For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace. 7 Of the increase of his government and peace there shall be no end, upon the throne of David, and upon his kingdom, to order it, and to establish it with judgment and with justice from henceforth even forever. The zeal of the LORD of hosts will perform this.”

Isaiah 7:14 “Therefore the Lord himself shall give you a sign; Behold, a virgin shall conceive, and bear a son, and shall call his name Immanuel.”

As we approach Christmas Day, we believe it’s important for this ministry to loudly proclaim the whole reason for the season, as the saying goes! That said, over the next few days we’re looking at the basics of both Christianity, and Mormonism. Our topic:

Who is Jesus?

We’re looking at the very basics of what God has revealed about His Son through His word, and comparing it with what Mormon leaders have always taught about Him. To be sure, the LDS references we’re looking at aren’t some obscure blips of info pulled from a dusty old shelf, rather, these are common teachings/doctrines of Mormonism all members will be able to recognize, and affirm, this is the god they worship.

Zechariah 11:4-6b; “Thus saith the LORD my God; Feed the flock of the slaughter; 5 Whose possessors slay them, and hold themselves not guilty: and they that sell them say, Blessed be the LORD; for I am rich: and their own shepherds pity them not. 6 For I will no more pity the inhabitants of the land, saith the LORD: but, lo, I will deliver the men every one into his neighbour’s hand, and into the hand of his king: and they shall smite the land, and out of their hand I will not deliver them.”

Luke 19:41-44; “And when he was come near, he beheld the city, and wept over it, 42 Saying, If thou hadst known, even thou, at least in this thy day, the things which belong unto thy peace! but now they are hid from thine eyes. 43 For the days shall come upon thee, that thine enemies shall cast a trench about thee, and compass thee round, and keep thee in on every side, 44 And shall lay thee even with the ground, and thy children within thee; and they shall not leave in thee one stone upon another; because thou knewest not the time of thy visitation.”

The title for this month’s Visiting Teaching Message is Willing to Bear One Another’s Burdens.

It starts off by quoting Thomas S. Monson, who said “We are the Lord’s hands here upon the earth, with the mandate to serve and to lift His children. He is dependent upon each of us.” The
‘we’ Monson is referring to here are the members of the Mormon Church.

The message also quotes Henry B. Eyring, “A great change began in your heart when you came into the Church. You made a covenant, and you received a promise that began changing your very nature. …

“… You promised that you would help the Lord make [others’] burdens light and be comforted. You were given the power to help lighten those loads when you received the gift of the Holy Ghost”
