June 2 — We’re continuing to work through the new For the Strength of Youth booklet the Church has created for its youth to use in correlation with its new curriculum this fall.

This next section, Love God, love your neighbor, focuses on teaching the youth that loving their God means following all His laws and commandments.

It begins:

“God loves you. He is your Father. His perfect love can inspire you to love Him. When your love for Heavenly Father is the most important influence in your life, many decisions become easier.” (page 11)

Jesus Will Help You (pages 6-9)

 This section begins by saying,

“Jesus Christ is your strength. He has done everything necessary for you to have joy in this life and forever.”

This statement sounds very contradictory to me. If Jesus “has done everything necessary” for them to have joy forever, why do they also encourage the youth to do baptisms for the dead? Having joy for eternity, at least to Christians, is knowing He is the reason we have eternal life and can be in the presence of God. How can you have joy in this life and the next if you believe your salvation is based on what you can do?

This section goes on to say,

“Because God loves you, He sent His Son, Jesus Christ, who took upon Himself your sins so you can repent and keep progressing.”

May 13 — The Church will begin a new curriculum starting in September for the youth. They have also updated the booklet For the Strength of Youth as well and it will go along with their new program. In preparation for the new curriculum the youth are encouraged to start reading one chapter of the guide a week beginning May 6th. This is going to be a huge change for the youth, there will be an app they can download, a magazine, and special music that will go along with the new program.

As Michelle and I began going through the new For the Strength of Youth booklet we found many things that broke our hearts for the young people who will participate in this new curriculum.

It begins with a message from the First Presidency it says (page 2)–

“We love you and we have confidence in you. You are truly among Heavenly Father’s choice spirits, sent to earth at this time to do important things.”

For the Strength of the Youth, ‘The Great Cause of the Restoration’, January 2021 “…We should always remember the price Joseph and Hyrum Smith paid…to establish the Church so you and I could enjoy the many blessings and all of these revealed truths we have today. Their faithfulness should never be forgotten! … Before his death in 1844, Joseph wrote a spirited letter to the Saints. It was a call to action, which continues in the Church today: Brethren [and sisters], shall we not go on in so great a cause? …

“We should always remember the price Hyrum and Joseph Smith paid. … Their faithfulness should never be forgotten!” … Consider what offering you will present to the Lord in righteousness in the coming days. Be courageous…I know that the Savior is pleased when we present Him an offering from our hearts in righteousness, just as He was pleased with the faithful offering of those remarkable brothers, Joseph and Hyrum Smith…” — M. Russell Ballard (more…)
