April 14 — Conference Quote: Thou Art the Christ. ChurchNews.com “Lifelong discipleship of Jesus Christ begins in our homes — and in Primary as early as 18 months of age. We want our children to believe in Jesus Christ, belong to Jesus Christ and His Church through covenant and strive to become like Jesus Christ.”
For faith to lead to salvation, it must be centered in the Lord Jesus Christ.
“How can we help children strengthen their belief in Jesus Christ and access His divine power?”
_____
After His Resurrection, the Savior invited the multitude to feel the prints of the nails in His hands and feet, one by one. “I invite you to ponder what this can look like in the life of young children. Do they hear testimonies of Jesus Christ and His gospel? … Do they know of His message and mission?”
Members of the Church have a covenantal responsibility to prepare for His return. “How can we help children make and keep sacred covenants? … How can we help baptized and confirmed children fulfill their covenantal responsibility to gather themselves and others unto Jesus Christ?”
Seek inspired ways to help children come to know this is their Church and they have a vital role to play in preparing for the Savior’s return…
“If we are not testifying to the veracity of His premortal godhood, His divine mission and His prison-bursting Resurrection in our homes and in every single meeting of this Church, then our messages of love, service, honesty, humility, gratitude and compassion can become nothing more than a jaunty pep talk of thoughtful living.” — Amy Wright

I chose to write about Ms. Wright’s talk that she gave at General Conference because it’s the verse that led me to start questioning Mormonism. I had just read that verse the day before I went to the Ogden Temple to be baptized for the dead. You can read more about this in my testimony.
Today we have a few questions/comments about this talk so here we go!
Amy Wright said that Jesus was a god in preexistence. She’s right, that’s what they believe. Since her husband is part of the McConkie clan it stands to reason she’d know this.
Mormon Doctrine, p. 94 “By obedience and devotion to the truth he attained that pinnacle of intelligence which ranked him as a God, as the Lord Omnipotent, while yet in his pre-existent state.”
1.We’re wondering how he became a god in the preexistence but wasn’t God while on earth.
2.Ms. Wright also told the audience that it’s important to always teach about Jesus and his divine power. However, we posted about a month ago that Jesus only became perfect to become a god after he was resurrected.
Jesus Became Perfect When Resurrected “That Jesus attained eternal perfection following his resurrection is confirmed in the Book of Mormon.”
3.Ms. Wright also said that members should tell their kids about the BoM story where multitudes of people thrust their hands into Jesus’ open wounds. We wrote about this as well. How Did a Multitude Thrust Hands into Jesus’ Wounds? In short, we looked at the plausibility of this really happening. Oh dear…
4.Lastly, we have to ask why must believing in Jesus require that the kids believe in the Church? The Bible doesn’t say this. Imagine the apostle Paul telling the crowds this story!
Please, talk to the Mormon you know about this talk and let them know you’re praying for them! There were so many things that were wrong we could write about this for a month of Sundays. Ugh….
See General Conference, ‘Thou Art the Christ’, April 2025 to read her talk in full.
