November 30 — “The Bible, as it has been transmitted over the centuries, has suffered the loss of many plain and precious parts…Unfortunately, no original manuscripts of any portion of the Bible are available for comparison to determine the most accurate version. However, the Lord has revealed clearly the doctrines of the gospel in these latter days. The most reliable way to measure the accuracy of any biblical passage is not by comparing different texts, but by comparison with the Book of Mormon and modern-day revelations.” — ChurchNews.com (more…)

November 27 — Gospel Through the Ages, pp. 100-101 “Not only have the prophets of God throughout the various dispensations declared that mortals are the children of Heavenly Parents and that God placed mankind into mortality; but the pagan religions preserved in their theologies kindred doctrine. The ancient Greek poets and philosophers, the Mystery Religions, and even the first settlers of the Mesopotamian Valley proclaimed these divine truths. 101 In the Cybele—Attis cult, which originated in central Asia Minor, the supreme deity was known as the “Great Mother.” She was believed to be the mother not only “of all the gods,” but “of all men” as well. Several other cults which were pagan rivals of Christianity had beliefs similar to those of the Cybele—Attis cult, each of which maintained that men were the offspring of heavenly beings.” – Milton Hunter (more…)

November 22 — Why did Mosiah 5:15 say that Christ is “Lord God Omnipotent” who created the earth? Joseph Smith said that God didn’t create the earth; he just organized it.

Mosiah 5:15 “Therefore, I would that ye should be steadfast and immovable, always abounding in good works, that Christ, the Lord God Omnipotent, may seal you his, that you may be brought to heaven, that ye may have everlasting salvation and eternal life, through the wisdom, and power, and justice, and mercy of him who created all things, in heaven and in earth, who is God above all. Amen.” (more…)

November 20 — “My Words . . . Never Cease,” Ensign, May 2008, 91 “Some Christians, in large measure because of their genuine love for the Bible, have declared that there can be no more authorized scripture beyond the Bible. In thus pronouncing the canon of revelation closed, our friends in some other faiths shut the door on divine expression that we in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints hold dear: the Book of Mormon, the Doctrine and Covenants, the Pearl of Great Price, and the ongoing guidance received by God’s anointed prophets and apostles.  November 17 — Adam Who is He, p. 58 “Some people have the idea that the Ten Commandments were first given by Moses when he directed the children of Israel and formulated their code of laws. This is not the case. These great commandments are from the beginning and were understood in righteous communities in the days of Adam. They are, in fact, fundamental parts of the gospel of Jesus Christ, and the gospel in its fullness was first given to Adam.” (Doctrines of Salvation, 1:94-96)” – Mark E. Petersen (more…)

November 16 — Journal of Discourses, vol. 21, p. 296 “…the very moment that they are admitted to be true, it brings in plurality of marriage, and if plurality of marriage is not true or in other words, if a man has no divine right to marry two wives or more in this world, the marriage for eternity is not true, and your faith is all vain, and all the sealing ordinances and powers, pertaining to marriages for eternity are vain, worthless, good for nothing; for as sure as one is true the other also must be true. Amen.” – Orson Pratt, Salt Lake City, July 18, 1880 (more…)

November 13 — Studies of the Book of Mormon, p. 240 “Did Ethan Smith’s View of the Hebrews furnish structural material for Joseph Smith’s Book of Mormon? It has been pointed out in these pages that there are many things in the former book that might well have suggested many major things in the other. Not a few things merely, one or two, or half dozen, but many; and it is this fact of many things of similarity and the cumulative force of them that make them so serious a menace to Joseph Smith’s story of the Book of Mormon’s origin.” – B.H. Roberts, Mormon Seventy and LDS Historian (more…)

November 12 — “Temple Worship: The Source of Strength and Power in Times of Need,” Ensign, May 2009, 45 “Fourteen years ago the Lord decided it was not necessary for my wife to live any longer on the earth, and He took her to the other side of the veil. I confess that there are times when it is difficult not to be able to turn and talk to her, but I do not complain. The Lord has allowed me, at important moments in my life, to feel her influence through the veil. . . . (more…)

November 9 — “A Choice Seer,” Ensign, Aug. 1986 “Ages ago in the Great Council, Jesus was the prepared but meek Volunteer. As the Father described the plan of salvation and the need for a Savior, it was Jesus who stepped forward and said humbly but courageously, ‘Here am I, send me.’ (Abr. 3:27; see also Moses 4:2.) Never has anyone offered to do so much for so many with so few words!

“It is through the Prophet Joseph Smith, whom the resurrected Jesus called, that we learn these things and so much more about Jesus–long before Bethlehem and well beyond Calvary

“Whenever we speak of the Prophet Joseph Smith, therefore, it should be in reverent appreciation of the Lord who called him and whom Joseph served so well.” – Neal A. Maxwell (more…)

November 6 — Mormon Doctrine, p. 431 “This Protestant revolution was inspired of God; it was one of the necessary occurrences which prepared the way for the restoration of the gospel.

Members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints are not Protestants, and the Church itself is not a Protestant church. The true Church is not a dead branch broken from a dead tree; it is a living tree planted again by revelation in the vineyard of the Lord, and it shall grow and flourish long after the vineyard has been burned and every dead branch and vine has been consumed as stubble.” — Bruce McConkie (more…)

November 30 — Why isn’t Pentecost in the BoM? 34 A.D.

3 Nephi 19:9 “And they did pray for that which they most desired; and they desired that the Holy Ghost should be given unto them.” …

BC 559 – 545

2 Nephi 31:13-14 “Wherefore, my beloved brethren, I know that if ye shall follow the Son, with full purpose of heart, acting no hypocrisy and no deception before God, but with real intent, repenting of your sins, witnessing unto the Father that ye are willing to take upon you the name of Christ, by baptism—yea, by following your Lord and your Savior down into the water, according to his word, behold, then shall ye receive the Holy Ghost; yea, then cometh the baptism of fire and of the Holy Ghost; and then can ye speak with the tongue of angels, and shout praises unto the Holy One of Israel. 14 But, behold, my beloved brethren, thus came the voice of the Son unto me, saying: (more…)
