General Conference, ‘Welcome Message’, April 2021 “The gospel of Jesus Christ is a gospel of repentance. “Because of the Savior’s Atonement, His gospel provides an invitation to keep changing, growing and becoming more pure. ‘Abstain from all appearance of evil.’ 1 Thessalonians 5:22

Thanks to Melissa’s hard work, we have another installment for our list of YouTube Videos! This time we’re looking at a number of quotes made by LDS leaders on the topic of chastity.

Their comments were directed toward LDS youth as reminders to keep themselves morally clean – even during rape. Their overblown, not to mention incorrect view of this, defies all logic.

Here are just two of the outlandish things they’ve said – (more…)

Today’s post comes courtesy of another meme I found online this week. Ha, ‘lucky’ us!

The meme was a pretty picture of a Mormon temple with a partial quote from Spencer Kimball. After searching around, I saw that Thomas Monson quoted Mr. Kimball’s words at the April 2011 General Conference.

What’s bothersome about this teaching is the subtlety of their brainwashing techniques they’ve employed.

General Conference, ‘The Holy Temple A Beacon to the World,’ April 2011 “To you parents of young children, may I share with you some sage advice from President Spencer W. Kimball. Said he: “It would be a fine thing if … parents would have in every bedroom in their house a picture of the temple so [their children] from the time [they are] infant[s] could look at the picture every day [until] it becomes a part of [their lives]. When [they reach] the age that [they need] to make [the] very important decision [concerning going to the temple], it will have already been made.” — Thomas Monson (more…)

Our look at this family tree had to be severely tamed – there are so many members of this clan who are notable figures in Mormonism, it’d be impossible to list all of them. For the sake of time and space, we’ve listed just a handful of who’s who!

As you might imagine, they’ve been instrumental in what makes the LDS Church what it is today. (more…)

Mark 8:36; “For what shall it profit a man, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul?”

Kimball Conference Report, April 1974, p. 187; “I don’t know if you receive them, but every week, every mail, I receive two or three or a dozen applications for charity, from all over the world saying: “Please send us money to help these poor people that are starving and homeless.”

Now then our work should go to our own people first, of course, and I have recently made up my mind. I just throw them into a pile and think, Well, there is another $5.00 that could go to the fast offerings… … “Bishops, don’t let yourselves be imposed upon.”

Divorce Among Mormon Polygamists: Extent and Explanations, p. 9; “An interesting glimpse of this Wilford Woodruff 2period is provided by a letter from Wilford Woodruff to George A. Smith in April 1857: We George A Smithhave had a great reformation this winter; some of the fruits are: all have confessed their sins either great or small, restored their stolen property; all have been baptized from the presidency down; all are trying to pay their tithing and nearly all are trying to get wives, until there is hardly a girl 14 years old in Utah, but what is married, or just going to be. President Young has hardly time to eat, drink or sleep, in consequence of marrying the people and attending the endowments.” – Eugene E. Campbell and Bruce L. Campbell

Mormon Decisions 10Journal of Discourses, 5:172; “Some say the earth exists without spirit; I do not believe any such thing; it has a spirit as much as anybody has a spirit. How can anything live, except it has a living spirit? How can the earth produce vegetation, fruits, trees, and every kind of production, if there is no life in it?” – Heber C. Kimball, Salt Lake City, August 23, 1857

bigfoot-freeclickr Miracle of Forgiveness, pp 127-128; “On the sad character Cain, an interesting story comes to us from Lycurgus A. Wilson’s book on the life of David W. Patten. From the book I quote an extract from a letter by Abraham O. Smoot giving his recollection of David Patten’s account of meeting “a very remarkable person who had represented himself as being Cain.”

Visiting Teaching Message for December 2013

flowers-cartoon-8The Visiting Teaching message for December 2013 is the first part of a series on the life of the Jesus of Mormonism. This month’s lesson is titled “The Divine Mission of Jesus Christ: The Only Begotten Son”.

salt lake mormon temple 2Improvement Era, Vol. 63, No. 12, Dec. 1960, pp. 922-23; “I saw a striking contrast in the progress of the Indian people today as against that of only fifteen years ago…. they are fast becoming a white and delightsome people…The day of the Lamanites is here! Young white missionaries throughout the Church are happy in the service, glad that they were called to this special mission…At last the Indians are suitable. I heard them bear their witness…they are now becoming white and delightsome, as they were promised…

False Promises of Hope

Mormon Decisions 10The Miracle of Forgiveness, pg 164-165, 354-355; “…living all the commandments guarantees total forgiveness of sins and assures one of exaltation…trying is not sufficient. Nor is repentence when one merely tries to abandon sin”.

Romans 16:17-18; “Now I beseech you, brethren, mark them which cause divisions and offences contrary to the doctrine which ye have learned; and avoid them. 18 For they that are such serve not our Lord Jesus Christ, but their own belly; and by good words and fair speeches deceive the hearts of the simple.”
