May 25 — Better Off Dead Than Excommunicated. Miracle of Forgiveness, pp. 162-163 “Excommunication. The scriptures speak of Church members being “cast out” or “cut off,” or having their names “blotted out.” This means excommunication. This dread action means the total severance of the individual from the Church. (more…)

March 19 — Lamanites Will be White and Delightsome. General Conference, ‘Lamanites Will be White and Delightsome’, October 1947, p. 22 “…Lamanites to be “White and Delightsome” … The Lamanites must rise in majesty and power. We must look forward to the day when they will be “white and delightsome,” sharing the freedoms and blessings which we enjoy…when they shall have economic security, culture, refinement, and education… (more…)

March 6 — Godhood Requires Perfection Now. Miracle of Forgiveness, pp. 209-210 “Perfection really comes through overcoming… Christ became perfect through overcoming. Only as we overcome shall we become perfect and move toward godhood. As I have indicated previously, the time to do this is now, in mortality.” — Spencer Kimball, 1969 (more…)

‘The next day John seeth Jesus coming unto him, and saith, Behold the Lamb of God, which taketh away the sin of the world.’ John 1:29

March 5 — Keeping Commandments Brings Forgiveness. The Miracle of Forgiveness, p. 201 “Keeping God’s Commandments Brings Forgiveness…In his preface to modern revelation, the Lord outlined what is one of the most difficult requirements in true repentance. For some it is the hardest part of repentance, because it puts one on guard for the remainder of his life. The Lord says:—I the Lord cannot look upon sin with the least degree of allowance; Nevertheless, he that repents and does the commandments of the Lord shall be forgiven. (D&C 1:31-32.)” — Spencer Kimball, 1969. [emp. added] (more…)

November 15 — 4 Lies Mormons Tell about Jesus’ Shed Blood. The title of our post today actually serves as the question we have for Mormons. Why did Jesus shed His blood? Some might say it’s the most important question there is in all the world. Let’s explore God’s word…

In the book of Matthew, Jesus spoke about this very subject –

Matthew 26:28 “ …this is my blood of the new testament, which is shed for many for the remission of sins.”

Our question for the Mormon is: Why? (more…)

June 23 — Church News, October 9, 1976 “Spencer W. Kimball stated: “We warn you against the dissemination of doctrines which are not according to the scriptures and which are alleged to have been taught by some of the General Authorities of past generations. Such, for instance, is the Adam-God theory. We denounce that theory and hope that everyone will be cautioned against this and other kinds of false doctrine”.” (more…)

‘Abstain from all appearance of evil.’ 1 Thessalonians 5:22

Thanks to Melissa’s hard work, we have another installment for our list of YouTube Videos! This time we’re looking at a number of quotes made by LDS leaders on the topic of chastity.

Their comments were directed toward LDS youth as reminders to keep themselves morally clean – even during rape. Their overblown, not to mention incorrect view of this, defies all logic.

Here are just two of the outlandish things they’ve said – (more…)

Today’s post comes courtesy of another meme I found online this week. Ha, ‘lucky’ us!

The meme was a pretty picture of a Mormon temple with a partial quote from Spencer Kimball. After searching around, I saw that Thomas Monson quoted Mr. Kimball’s words at the April 2011 General Conference.

What’s bothersome about this teaching is the subtlety of their brainwashing techniques they’ve employed.

General Conference, ‘The Holy Temple A Beacon to the World,’ April 2011 “To you parents of young children, may I share with you some sage advice from President Spencer W. Kimball. Said he: “It would be a fine thing if … parents would have in every bedroom in their house a picture of the temple so [their children] from the time [they are] infant[s] could look at the picture every day [until] it becomes a part of [their lives]. When [they reach] the age that [they need] to make [the] very important decision [concerning going to the temple], it will have already been made.” — Thomas Monson (more…)

Our look at this family tree had to be severely tamed – there are so many members of this clan who are notable figures in Mormonism, it’d be impossible to list all of them. For the sake of time and space, we’ve listed just a handful of who’s who!

As you might imagine, they’ve been instrumental in what makes the LDS Church what it is today. (more…)

Mark 8:36; “For what shall it profit a man, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul?”

Kimball Conference Report, April 1974, p. 187; “I don’t know if you receive them, but every week, every mail, I receive two or three or a dozen applications for charity, from all over the world saying: “Please send us money to help these poor people that are starving and homeless.”

Now then our work should go to our own people first, of course, and I have recently made up my mind. I just throw them into a pile and think, Well, there is another $5.00 that could go to the fast offerings… … “Bishops, don’t let yourselves be imposed upon.”

Divorce Among Mormon Polygamists: Extent and Explanations, p. 9; “An interesting glimpse of this Wilford Woodruff 2period is provided by a letter from Wilford Woodruff to George A. Smith in April 1857: We George A Smithhave had a great reformation this winter; some of the fruits are: all have confessed their sins either great or small, restored their stolen property; all have been baptized from the presidency down; all are trying to pay their tithing and nearly all are trying to get wives, until there is hardly a girl 14 years old in Utah, but what is married, or just going to be. President Young has hardly time to eat, drink or sleep, in consequence of marrying the people and attending the endowments.” – Eugene E. Campbell and Bruce L. Campbell
