“And hath made of one blood all nations of men for to dwell on all the face of the earth, and hath determined the times before appointed, and the bounds of their habitation” Acts 17:26

It goes without saying the Church’s focus wasn’t solely on Jesus Christ at their last conference. We’ve highlighted a number of their talks you can see at General Conferences.

Today our topic is focused on the speakers at the General Conference. Of the thirty speakers, eleven were non-white and it reminded me of an article we wrote a few years back listing racist LDS scriptures. For more info see Racist Mormon Scriptures.

I pray the reason I’ve pointed this out today is clear. My heart is broken that anyone would be tricked into believing the falsehoods of Mormonism. That in itself is bad enough.

Compounding the problem is the race issue. It’d be a gross understatement to say that I’m horrified each time I hear of a non-white person joining the Church. (more…)

The Church News “Because of the Savior, all will be resurrected. He has also made it possible for all to be reunited as families and have eternal joy in God’s presence if they make and keep covenants with Him.

As President Russell M. Nelson has taught: “Death is a necessary component of our eternal existence. … For sorrowing loved ones left behind … the sting of death is soothed by a steadfast faith in Christ, a perfect brightness of hope, a love of God and of all men, and a deep desire to serve them.” — Reyna Isabel Aburto (more…)

TheChurchNews.com Conference Talk Summaries PDF “Being even more effective in priesthood service comes by understanding why individuals are given the priesthood. The purpose for receiving the priesthood is to allow them to bless people for the Lord, doing so in His name. Priesthood service is given out of love, and the Lord blesses service given in His name.

The key to serving and blessing others in His name is praying that the people feel the Lord’s love through one’s loving service. When giving a priesthood blessing, pray to know what blessing the Lord has in store. Ask to know how He wants to bless that person, not what others want.

“My experience is that even when the blessing is not what the others desire for themselves or their loved one, the Spirit touches hearts to experience acceptance and comfort rather than disappointment.” Magnifying priesthood service depends on one’s diligence in seeking the Lord’s will and voice. That magnification may come slowly, but it will come.” — Henry Eyring (more…)

He knows you personally, He conferred the priesthood upon you.” He loves and trusts His priesthood holders to bless people He loves in His name.” — Henry B. Eyring

As an update to this post – I somehow forgot to include some verses about finding strength in the Lord – yikes!

Psalm 28:7-8, 37:39, 59:9; Exodus 15:2; Isaiah 45:24…and the list goes on!

TheChurchNews.com “The word that defines counsel and direction from President Nelson during general conference — ‘faith’ …

Temples are a vital part of the Restoration of the gospel of Jesus Christ in its fulness,” he said. “Ordinances of the temple fill our lives with power and strength — available in no other way. We thank God for those blessings.” — Russell Nelson [emp. added] (more…)

General Conference, ‘Hearts Knit Together’, April 2021 “The Lord expects us to teach that inclusion is a positive means toward unity and that exclusion leads to division.

As followers of Jesus Christ, we are dismayed when we hear of how children of God are mistreated based on their race. We have been heartbroken to hear of recent attacks on people who are Black, Asian, Latino, or of any other group. Prejudice, racial tension, or violence should never have any place in our neighborhoods, communities, or within the Church. Let each of us, no matter our age, strive to be our best.” — Gary E. Stevenson (more…)

James 2:19 “Thou believest that there is one God; thou doest well: the devils also believe, and tremble.”

Today we’re looking at a few things from a talk given by one of the Church’s General Authorities, Michael John U Teh. The reason his talk caught our attention was because of the subject matter. Mr. Teh laid a heavy emphasis on knowing Jesus vs. knowing about Him, alas, his talk created more confusion than direction.

You can read his talk in full at General Conference, ‘Our Personal Savior’, April 2021.

We’ve listed his comment/s followed by our observations.

First, recognize “knowing the Savior is the most important pursuit of our lives. It should take priority over anything else.”

The light of Christ, frequently called a conscience, leads to receiving the Holy Ghost’s influence, which is the greatest source of light from Heavenly Father in mortality.” — Timothy J. Dyches (more…)

Exodus 20:13 “Thou shalt not kill.” — Sixth Commandment

Today we’re looking at another part of a talk given by Neil Andersen at the latest General Conference. One of the important things of his speech is actually what he left out…

General Conference, ‘The Personal Journey of a Child of God’, April 2021 “We Know about Life before Birth

Our eternal perspective not only enlarges our understanding of those who are continuing their journey beyond mortality but also opens our understanding of those who are earlier in their journey and just now entering mortality.

Each person who comes to earth is a unique son or daughter of God.

Our personal journey did not begin at birth. Before we were born, we were together in a world of preparation where we “received [our] first lessons in the world of spirits.” …

As covenant children of God, we love, honor, nurture, safeguard, and welcome those spirits who are coming from the premortal world. …

The Sacred Responsibility of Safeguarding Life

Years ago…Gordon B. Hinckley…said: “…Abortion is an evil, stark and real and repugnant, which is sweeping over the earth. I plead with the women of this Church to shun it, to stand above it, to stay away from those compromising situations which make it appear desirable. There may be some few circumstances under which it can occur, but they are extremely limited.10…” — Neil L. Andersen (more…)

The Sacred Decision to Have a Child

It is concerning that even in some of the most prosperous countries of the world, fewer children are being born. “God’s commandment for His children to multiply and replenish the earth remains in force.”

…remember that each spirit child of God is coming to earth on his or her own personal journey…As you receive these precious children in the Savior’s name… I promise you that the Lord will bless you and shower His love and approval upon you.” — Neil L. Andersen (more…)

“Now unto him that is able to keep you from falling, and to present you faultless before the presence of his glory with exceeding joy, 25 To the only wise God our Saviour, be glory and majesty, dominion and power, both now and ever. Amen.” Jude 1:24-25

‘Christ Is Risen; Faith in Him Will Move Mountains’ “Talk summary: “My dear brothers and sisters, my call to you this Easter morning is to start today to increase your faith. …

To do anything well requires effort. Becoming a true disciple of Jesus Christ is no exception. First, study. Become an engaged learner. Second, choose to believe in Jesus Christ. Third, act in faith. Fourth, partake of sacred ordinances worthily. And fifth, ask your Heavenly Father, in the name of Jesus Christ, for help.

“Faith takes work. Receiving revelation takes work. … Do not minimize the faith you already have. It takes faith to join the Church and remain faithful.”” — Russell Nelson, Sunday April 4 2021 (more…)

General Conference, ‘Jesus Christ: The Caregiver of Our Soul’, April 2021 “Through Jesus Christ and His atoning sacrifice, we can experience a mighty change of mind and heart, bringing a fresh attitude, both toward God and toward life in general. When we sincerely repent of our sins and turn our hearts and will to God and His commandments, we can receive His forgiveness and feel the influence of His Holy Spirit in greater abundance. Mercifully, we avoid having to experience the depth of suffering the Savior endured. …

My dear friends, I testify to you that as we genuinely repent of our sins, we allow the atoning sacrifice of Christ to become wholly effective in our life. We will become free from the bondage of sin, find joy in our earthly journey, and become eligible to receive eternal salvation, which was prepared from the foundation of the world for all who believe in Jesus Christ and come unto Him.” — Ulisses Soares [emp. added] (more…)

LDS Newsroom General Conference, Sunday Afternoon Session, April 2021 “Telling listeners that they have been “blessed abundantly” to learn about eternal principles from the Lord’s authorized servants, Elder Bednar invited Latter-day Saints to “learn, live and love principles of righteousness.”

“Only gospel truths can enable us to ‘cheerfully do all things that lie in our power’ to press forward on the covenant path and to ‘see the salvation of God, and for his arm to be revealed,’” Elder Bednar said.”

General Conference, ‘Defending Our Divinely Inspired Constitution’, April 2021 “Because of the many threats that undermine the principles of the Constitution, Latter-day Saints have a unique responsibility to uphold and defend the U.S. Constitution by praying for the Lord to guide and bless all nations and their leaders.

Learn and advocate the principles of the Constitution by seeking out wise and good persons and be knowledgeable citizens.

“No party, platform or individual candidate can satisfy all personal preferences. Each citizen must therefore decide which issues are most important to him or her at any particular time.

Then, members should seek inspiration on how to exercise their influence according to their individual priorities. This process will not be easy.” — Dallin H. Oaks (more…)

General Conference, ‘The Gospel Light of Truth and Love’, April 2021 “Thanks to the commencing of the ongoing Restoration just over 200 years ago, “the gospel light of truth and love” now shines brightly throughout the earth. … Highlighting the rapid growth of the Church, President Russell M. Nelson recently said: “Today, the Lord’s work in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is moving forward at an accelerated pace. The Church will have an unprecedented, unparalleled future.”

As we gather on both sides of the veil, as we make sacrifices to serve and make the temple pivotal in our lives, the Lord is truly building us — He is building His covenant people.” — Alan R. Walker (more…)

‘Behold, God is my salvation; I will trust, and not be afraid: for the LORD JEHOVAH is my strength and my song; he also is become my salvation.’ Isaiah 12:2

General Conference, ‘They Cannot Prevail; We Cannot Fail’, April 2021 “Just going to church once a week is not enough to build upon the rock. Our entire lives should be filled with the gospel of Jesus Christ. The gospel is not part of our life, but our life is actually part of the gospel of Jesus Christ. Think about it. Is that not true? Our mortal life is only part of the whole plan of salvation and exaltation.” — Chi Hong (Sam) Wong (more…)

“Free will carried many a soul to hell, but never a soul to heaven.” Charles Spurgeon

General Conference, ‘Essential Conversations’, April 2021 “There is a uniquely special time in children’s lives when they are protected from Satan’s influence. It is a time when they are innocent and sin free. It is a sacred time for parent and child. Children are to be taught, by word and example, before and after they have “arrived unto the years of accountability before God.” …  As we nurture and prepare our children, we allow for their agency…and we never, ever, give up on them. After all, isn’t this the Lord’s way with each of us?” — Joy D. Jones (more…)

General Conference, ‘Why the Covenant Path’, April 2021 “…there are many who, while not on the covenant path themselves, act in a way that mirrors the choices and contributions of those who are on the path. You might say they reap the blessings of walking a “covenant-consistent” path. What, then, is the difference of the covenant path?

Actually, the difference is uniquely and eternally significant. It includes the nature of our obedience, the character of God’s commitment to us, the divine help we receive, the blessings tied to gathering as a covenant people, and most importantly, our eternal inheritance.” — D. Todd Christofferson [emp. added] (more…)

General Conference, ‘Why the Covenant Path’, April 2021 “On the covenant path we also find the essential blessings of forgiveness and cleansing from sin. This is help that can come only through divine grace, administered by the Holy Ghost. … There is also a weekly gathering of the covenant people to the house of prayer on the Lord’s day, that we may “more fully keep [ourselves] unspotted from the world.” — D.
