LDS Newsroom General Conference, Sunday Afternoon Session, April 2021 “Telling listeners that they have been “blessed abundantly” to learn about eternal principles from the Lord’s authorized servants, Elder Bednar invited Latter-day Saints to “learn, live and love principles of righteousness.”
“Only gospel truths can enable us to ‘cheerfully do all things that lie in our power’ to press forward on the covenant path and to ‘see the salvation of God, and for his arm to be revealed,’” Elder Bednar said.”
For more info see David A. Bednar: ‘The Principles of My Gospel’.
John 14:6 “Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.”
John 1:17 “For the law was given through Moses; grace and truth came through Jesus Christ.”
John 10:1 “Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that entereth not by the door into the sheepfold, but climbeth up some other way, the same is a thief and a robber.”
The three Bible verses above are pretty clear. Jesus is the only one with authority we should give heed to.
A bigger blessing for LDS members could’ve been had by listening to the truth about Jesus’ sacrifice on the cross, and His subsequent resurrection.
Furthermore, it seemed rather arrogant to declare someone would be blessed by listening to your own voice.
Pray for those who listened to this man’s talk to stop and think about what he said.
With Love in Christ —
Michelle
[…] LDS Blessed Listening to Authorized Leaders – David Bednar April 2021 […]
I realized early on that the only real inspiration I needed to learn of God, his plan of salvation and his undying love of mankind, was to be found (only) in the Bible. After all, the Bible clearly states that God and His Word are one(John 1:1,14). Anybody wanting to know about God and his plan for their life, to include those things that can draw us closer to God and those things (sin) that can draw us away from God. After all, anything we do that is not of faith, is sin.(Romans 14:23))
How important is God’s Word in comparison to the words of mortal men (General Authorities)? “for thou hast magnified thy Word above thy name” (Psalm 138:2). God has told us that without knowledge of His Word, we will perish (Hosea 4:6). God never told told us that we are to marginalize His Word by focusing our attention on the words spoken by mortal men. I could get more inspiration (revelation) by spending 10 minutes reading my Bible, than by spending two days listening to General Conference.
“STUDY (Ponder) the ways to show thyself approved of God; a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing (God’s) word of truth. But shun profane and vain babblings: for they will increase into more ungodliness. And their word will eat as doth a canker: of whom is Hymenaeus and Philetus (GA’s??).
In my opinion, listening to church leaders, who have proudly embraced the gospel of Joe Smith, over that of Jesus Christ, is a very dangerous pursuit for anyone seeking the Truth of Jesus Christ. After all, every member of the General Authorities, has denied God’s own Words about His beloved Son and the salvation brought about by faith in His name.
Okay…So, this is what I learned from general conference 2021.
Don’t be a lazy learner or lax disciple.
Do be a blessed listener.
And the Haunted Mansion is really the Anaheim temple.
Did I miss anything?
Had a short fb chat yesterday with my RM granddaughter I was reminded of how little mormons (I was one) consider their sin. She mentioned she’s sure she’s made a few mistakes and has some imperfections. Isaiah says our best righteousness is like filthy rags. Until you get into the WORD, in which they don’t dwell, you cannot begin to comprehend the gulf between yourself and our Lord and how precious is His grace. This evil church makes me very angry…..lie upon lie.
Yeah Sandra, bringing up sin seems to be a concept that is hard for a member to grasp, (deer in the headlights response). But to be fair I think everyone has wrestled with this. But I think it’s even more unique to LDS members. They are taught they are set apart from the rest of Christianity, and the world, and they must constantly strive to be perfect. And they genuinely believe they are good people…and they are. And the little white lie is overlooked by heavenly father, because of all the good they’ve done. But in most churches I’ve been to it’s at least discussed at the end of the service, that we are ALL sinners in need of a Savior… All we can do is pray, pray pray.
Today as we speak my LDS friend and her husband are moving to Colorado 🙁. They’ve loaded up a U-haul and left this morning. But we’re FB friends and we can still stay in touch. But I’m still sad to see them go. I just wish I had more one on one time with them. But because the church demands a lot of their time, it was always difficult pinning down a time to get together. Keep the dialogue open Sandra.
