The Church News “Because of the Savior, all will be resurrected. He has also made it possible for all to be reunited as families and have eternal joy in God’s presence if they make and keep covenants with Him.
As President Russell M. Nelson has taught: “Death is a necessary component of our eternal existence. … For sorrowing loved ones left behind … the sting of death is soothed by a steadfast faith in Christ, a perfect brightness of hope, a love of God and of all men, and a deep desire to serve them.” — Reyna Isabel Aburto
1 Corinthians 15:55-56 “O death, where is thy sting? O grave, where is thy victory? 56 The sting of death is sin; and the strength of sin is the law.”
Acts 24:15 “And have hope toward God, which they themselves also allow, that there shall be a resurrection of the dead, both of the just and unjust.”
John 5:28-29 “Marvel not at this: for the hour is coming, in the which all that are in the graves shall hear his voice, 29 And shall come forth; they that have done good, unto the resurrection of life; and they that have done evil, unto the resurrection of damnation.”
Ms. Aburto’s statement above is only partially correct.
As the scriptures above clearly state everyone will be resurrected at some point. You’re either raised to receive everlasting life, or raised to be judged for damnation. However, Jesus’ resurrection did not make it possible for all to be reunited as families!
In Mark 12:24-25 the Lord corrected the Sadducees by telling them they didn’t understand scripture and clearly explained there would be no marriages in heaven.
Furthermore, Mr. Nelson’s statement is incorrect as well. The ‘sting of death’ is sin. The only way you can take care of this is by accepting Jesus as your Redeemer beloved! You can’t serve enough people to wash away your sin-stained life, nor can a deep desire to serve people remedy the problem.
You can’t wish away the sin nature you’re born with. The only thing that fixes this problem is again, Christ Jesus and His spilt blood!
Lastly dear friends, gaining eternal life with Jesus does not include making and keeping numerous covenants with Him. We see in scripture it’s very simple. We believe and confess Him.
Paul tells us this in Romans 10:9-10 —
“That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. 10 For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.”
While this talk is still fresh in the memories of your LDS friends, be sure to share the truth with them!
With Love in Christ —
Michelle
