Today we’re looking at contradictions Joseph Smith made about missionaries and what he said God revealed to him.
The first time he brought this up he said missionaries should go out two by two…
February 9, 1831
D&C 42:6 “And ye shall go forth in the power of my Spirit, preaching my gospel, two by two, in my name, lifting up your voices as with the sound of a trump, declaring my word like unto angels of God.” – History of the Church 1:148-154
Five years later Joe Smith revealed missionaries should go out by themselves.
March 30, 1836
History of the Church 2:431 “…Elders would go forth, and each must stand for himself, as it was not necessary for them to be sent out, two by two, as in former times…”
More than two months later Smith reverted back to what he stated the first time and told people missionaries should go out two by two.
June 7, 1831
D&C 52:10 “Let them go two by two, and thus let them preach by the way in every congregation, baptizing by water, and the laying on of the hands by the water’s side.”
27 AD
Luke 10:1 “After these things the Lord appointed other seventy also, and sent them two and two before his face into every city and place, whither he himself would come.” – c. 27 AD
If Joseph Smith truly received this from the Lord, why are there so many stories?
Why didn’t Smith model their mission program after what it says in Luke?
Ask the Mormon you know for their opinion and let them know you care for their salvation.
