General Conference, ‘Essential Conversations’, April 2021 “…The Holy Ghost is essential to our children’s testimony of and conversion to Jesus Christ… Consider the value of family conversations about the gospel of Jesus Christ, essential conversations, that can invite the Spirit. … To do so, we can assist children in recognizing when they are feeling the Spirit and in discerning what actions cause the Spirit to leave…” — Joy D. Jones
1 John 4:1 “Beloved, believe not every spirit, but try the spirits whether they are of God: because many false prophets are gone out into the world.”
John 14:17 “Even the Spirit of truth; whom the world cannot receive, because it seeth him not, neither knoweth him: but ye know him; for he dwelleth with you, and shall be in you.”
It’s heartbreaking to see all the lies in just this one talk. Yesterday we saw how Ms. Jones emphasized the importance of telling kids they’re immune from sinning until they’re eight years old.
Our concern today centers on the lie she told about the Lord’s Holy Spirit. The Bible makes it very clear God’s Spirit lives inside the believer and will never leave. While there are times, we can sense peace, we don’t ‘feel’ His Spirit in the manner she’s spoken of.
Jesus said that if we love Him, He’d send the Holy Spirit —
“Jesus answered and said unto him, If a man love me, he will keep my words: and my Father will love him, and we will come unto him, and make our abode with him.” John 14:23
There’s nothing in that verse, or any other, telling us that His Spirit will get up and vacate the premises. The Bible tells us we can know with certainty He takes up residence in the believer – 1 Cor. 3:16, 1 Cor. 6:19. As Dr. Walter Martin said, this isn’t about feel good, goosebump moments. This is about truth! With directions like this, they’ll never know how the Lord interacts with His people.
Please, do make sure you share this awesome truth with a Mormon and pray they’d question the lies in this woman’s speech.
With Love in Christ —
Michelle
