Exodus 20:13 “Thou shalt not kill.” — Sixth Commandment
Today we’re looking at another part of a talk given by Neil Andersen at the latest General Conference. One of the important things of his speech is actually what he left out…
General Conference, ‘The Personal Journey of a Child of God’, April 2021 “We Know about Life before Birth
Our eternal perspective not only enlarges our understanding of those who are continuing their journey beyond mortality but also opens our understanding of those who are earlier in their journey and just now entering mortality.
Each person who comes to earth is a unique son or daughter of God.
Our personal journey did not begin at birth. Before we were born, we were together in a world of preparation where we “received [our] first lessons in the world of spirits.” …
As covenant children of God, we love, honor, nurture, safeguard, and welcome those spirits who are coming from the premortal world. …
The Sacred Responsibility of Safeguarding Life
Years ago…Gordon B. Hinckley…said: “…Abortion is an evil, stark and real and repugnant, which is sweeping over the earth. I plead with the women of this Church to shun it, to stand above it, to stay away from those compromising situations which make it appear desirable. There may be some few circumstances under which it can occur, but they are extremely limited.10…” — Neil L. Andersen
Genesis 1:27 “So God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him; male and female created he them.”
There are countless verses in God’s word admonishing anything to do with abortion and the two listed above are a great place to start if sharing them with a friend!
We pray the problem in Mr. Andersen’s talk will give pause to the Mormon people.
Not only are the things Mr. Andersen said in his talk biblically wrong, the topic of Mormonism and abortion hit close to home for me personally and events surrounding the experience left a profound impact on my life.
When I was in Junior High a good friend of mine had an older brother, who was married and expecting their first baby. Half way through the pregnancy the expectant mother was diagnosed with cancer. Needless to say, they were all very active in the Church.
Doctors told the young woman she’d have a good chance at survival if they aborted the baby and long story short, this is what they ended up doing. Sadly, three weeks later she passed away. I’ve obviously never forgotten it.
The problem with the Church’s view on this is wrong on many levels. They’ve set up their own rules by saying ‘The Church allows for possible exceptions…’. We have to ask what the Lord says about the Church’s allowance? It seems the Church has set themselves in the position of God Himself. Worse yet, they also said the ultimate end all are the feelings of those involved.
He also chose to quote Mr. Hinckley while leaving out the rest of what they truly believe about abortion.
If it’s not allowed, what do feelings have to do with this? As the old saying goes, you can be totally sincere, and be sincerely wrong.
Lastly, using a false doctrine of the pre-existence has only added insult to injury on this one.
Pray for those who listened to this man’s falsehoods and for Jesus’ intervention!
With Love in Christ —
Michelle
- The official position of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints:
“The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints believes in the sanctity of human life. Therefore, the Church opposes elective abortion for personal or social convenience, and counsels its members not to submit to, perform, encourage, pay for, or arrange for such abortions.
“The Church allows for possible exceptions for its members when:
“Pregnancy results from rape or incest, or
“A competent physician determines that the life or health of the mother is in serious jeopardy, or
“A competent physician determines that the fetus has severe defects that will not allow the baby to survive beyond birth.
“The Church teaches its members that even these rare exceptions do not justify abortion automatically. Abortion is a most serious matter and should be considered only after the persons involved have consulted with their local church leaders and feel through personal prayer that their decision is correct.

It’s like they just made up a religion out of thin air. Is that the sound of men in suits patting themselves on the back? Snake oil salesmen had nothing on this group.
