December 28 — General Conference, October 1, 1967 “Gratitude to Mother Eve …One of these days, if I ever get to where I can speak to Mother Eve, I want to thank her for tempting Adam to partake of the fruit. He accepted the temptation, with the result that children came into this world. And when I kneel in prayer, I feel to thank Mother Eve, for if she hadn’t had that influence over Adam, and if Adam had done according to the commandment first given to him, they would still be in the Garden of Eden and we would not be here at all. We wouldn’t have come into this world. So the commentators made a great mistake when they put in the Bible at the top of page 3, as I think it is (it may not be the same page in every Bible), the statement “Man’s shameful fall.”” — Joseph Fielding Smith (more…)

December 21 — Journal of Discourses 10:258 – 259 “God is managing the affairs of all nations, and He has made known his will and pleasure to his servants the Prophets; He has given unto them the Everlasting Gospel, which they have received by the principle of revelation, and can by that means draw aside the curtain of futurity, and contemplate events as they are rolling forth, and understand the designs of Jehovah in relation to them; and these men have been sent forth to tell the people of all nations the things that are coming on them.” — John Taylor, delivered in the Tabernacle, Great Salt Lake City, October 10, 1863.  June 9 — Teachings of the Presidents of the Church Joseph F. Smith, p. 273 “Our business is to save the world, to save mankind; to bring them into harmony with the laws of God and with principles of righteousness and of justice and truth, that they may be saved in the kingdom of our God, and become, eventually, through obedience to the ordinances of the gospel, heirs of God and joint heirs with Jesus Christ. As I began compiling notes for our look at the talks given at this year’s General Conference, I received a heads up from Melissa telling me about a website she came across promoting ‘The 70 Day President Nelson Study’. The 70 days is based on the 70 talks Mr. Nelson has given at past General Conferences. The idea is that you can learn more about Nelson by reading his talks.

Ezra Taft Benson 2Teachings of the Presidents of the Church, Ezra Taft Benson, p. 92; “Even though He was God’s Son sent to earth, the divine plan of the Father required that Jesus be subjected to all the difficulties and tribulations of mortality. … To qualify as the Redeemer of all our Father’s children, Jesus had to be perfectly obedient to all the laws of God. Because He subjected Himself to the will of the Father, He grew “from grace to grace, until he received a fulness” of the Father’s power. Thus He had “all power, both in heaven and on earth.” (D&C 93:13, 17.)10 Because [ Jesus] was God—even the Son of God—He could carry the weight and burden of other men’s sins on Himself.”

Brigham YoungJournal of Discourses 4:297; “It was not for me to question whether Joseph was dictated by the Lord at all times and under all circumstances or not… He was called of God; God dictated him, and if He had a mind to leave him to himself and let him commit an error, that was no business of mine. And it was not for me to question it, if the Lord was disposed to let Joseph lead the people astray, for He had called him and instructed him to gather Israel and restore the Priesthood and kingdom to them. It was not my prerogative to call him in question with regard to any act of his life.” – Brigham Young, Salt Lake City, March 29, 1857
