Deuteronomy 18:22 “When a prophet speaketh in the name of the LORD, if the thing follow not, nor come to pass, that is the thing which the LORD hath not spoken, but the prophet hath spoken it presumptuously: thou shalt not be afraid of him.

Oops.
Sadly, the Mormon will tell you that Young was just giving his personal opinion. The problem with this theory is Mr. Young proclaimed on several occasions that whatever he spoke was to be considered scripture.
In one fell swoop he uttered two false prophecies. The Civil War did indeed grant freedom for the slaves and the decrees of the Mormon almighty were altered in 1978.
Ask the Mormon you know if they can trust Brigham as a prophet when he didn’t even know that slavery was coming to an end.
