August 30 — Journal of Discourses 14:116-117 “As for the Bible account of the creation we may say that the Lord gave it to Moses, or that Moses obtained the history and traditions of the fathers, and from them picked out what he considered necessary…no matter whether it is correct or not, and whether the Lord found the earth empty or void, or whether he made it out of nothing or out of the rude elements…it will remain a matter of speculation in the minds of men unless he give revelation on the subject.” – Brigham Young, Salt Lake City, May 14, 1871 (more…)

“You are now the cleanest person on the planet.” This is what the Branch President of my local Mormon Church would say at the ceremony for anyone who had just been baptized into the Church.

On a Church website for Baptism, it says, “Baptism is being born of the water.” It makes it possible for us to be made clean from our sins, which is necessary for us to return to God.” (more…)

Matthew 8:26 “And he saith unto them, Why are ye fearful, O ye of little faith? Then he arose, and rebuked the winds and the sea; and there was a great calm.”

BoM or BibleNot only does the Book of Mormon contain anachronistic problems along with its plagiarism issues, we also see contradictions within its own text. Sometimes the Book of Mormon will tell you it’s completely trustworthy and at other times, not so much.

August 7 – 2 Nephi 10:20 “And now, my beloved brethren, seeing that our merciful God has given us so great knowledge concerning these things, let us remember him, and lay aside our sins, and not hang down our heads, for we are not cast off; nevertheless, we have been driven out of the land of our inheritance; but we have been led to a better land, for the Lord has made the sea our path, and we are upon an isle of the sea.”

Isaiah 40:25 “To whom then will ye liken me, or shall I be equal? saith the Holy One.”

In August 2016 I was searching around for info on a speech by Melvin J. Ballard, when I came upon a  very interesting online publication called Mormonism Against Itself, written by a fellow by the name of Maurice Barnett.

The book was a compilation of dozens of Mormon documents that are now out of print, or hard to find. One of the items I read in Mr. Barnett’s compilation was a handout for a ward teacher’s lesson from 1922. While I am fully aware this sounds mundane, when you glance over this, one will discover how the Church knew no bounds when trying to pull the wool over the eyes of its followers. And surprisingly (or maybe not), they’re still banking on the same doctrines they did way back when.

They obviously felt no shame when referring to Joseph Smith as a redeemer, nor did they bother with publishing biblically sound materials. The content for their comparison of Jesus and Joseph was so outlandish, I’m still left without words to describe how awful it is!

D&C 132:7 “…by revelation and commandment through the medium of mine anointed, whom I have appointed on the earth to hold this power (and I have appointed unto my servant Joseph to hold this power in the last days, and there is never but one on the earth at a time on whom this power and the keys of this priesthood are conferred)…” [emp. added] (more…)

August 30 — Apostasy?…Not Exactly. Answers to Gospel Questions 2:45 “…the Lord, of necessity, has kept authorized servants on the earth bearing the priesthood from the days of Adam to the present time; in fact, there has never been a moment from the beginning that there were not men on the earth holding the Holy Priesthood. (Moses 5:59.)

Even in the days of apostasy, and apostasy has occurred several times, the Lord never surrendered this earth and permitted Satan to have complete control. Even when the great apostasy occurred following the death of the Savior’s apostles, our Father in heaven held control and had duly authorized servants on the earth to direct his work and to check, to some extent at least, the ravages and corruption of the evil powers. These servants were not permitted to organize the Church nor to officiate in the ordinances of the gospel, but they did check the advances of evil as far as the Lord deemed it necessary.” – Joseph Fielding Smith, Jr. (more…)

August 28 — Don’t Leave Because of Facts. Ensign, Nov. 2009, 37 “Some are willing to set aside the precious gospel truths restored by Joseph Smith because they get diverted on some historical issue or some scientific hypothesis not central to their exaltation, and in so doing they trade their spiritual birthright for a mess of pottage. They exchange the absolute certainty of the Restoration for a doubt, and in that process they fall into the trap of losing faith in the many things they do know because of a few things they do not know.” – Tad R. Callister (more…)
