August 19 — BoM Declares It May or May Not Be True. Matthew 8:26 “And he saith unto them, Why are ye fearful, O ye of little faith? Then he arose, and rebuked.

I’d never thought of our Bible verse today in light of the Mormon’s faith, or the lack thereof. That was until I read Oswald Chambers devotional for August 12th. Chambers mentioned we should all rest in the Lord (how true!), and resting in Him includes doing so even during the stormy times in life.

When push comes to shove, we all have a major decision in life to make. Do we instinctively fall back on our heritage and culture, in which we were raised? Or do we brave the storm by resting in Him, even if our decisions will cause the ship to overturn? Many times when we make a major change, expecting an overturned boat, we find our decision caused it to turn upright, not knowing the mess we had been in all along.

Nowhere in the Bible do we see the ambiguity we read about in the Book of Mormon! God’s word encourages study, discernment, and proving it for your life.

A Bible and the Jews

Mormon Decisions 102 Nephi 29:3-4, 6 “And because my words shall hiss forth—many of the Gentiles shall say: A Bible! A Bible! We have got a Bible, and there cannot be any more Bible. 4 But thus saith the Lord God: O fools, they shall have a Bible; and it shall proceed forth from the Jews, mine ancient covenant people. And what thank they the Jews for the Bible which they receive from them? Yea, what do the Gentiles mean? Do they remember the travails, and the labors, and the pains of the Jews, and their diligence unto me, in bringing forth salvation unto the Gentiles? 6 Thou fool, that shall say: A Bible, we have got a Bible, and we need no more Bible. Have ye obtained a Bible save it were by the Jews?”

Luke 24:27; “And beginning at Moses and all the prophets, he expounded unto them in all the scriptures the things concerning himself.”

Bible vs. Book of Mormon

Come, Listen to a Prophet’s Voice, pg. 15; Of the four great standard works of the Church—the Bible, the Book of Mormon, the Doctrine and Covenants, and the Pearl of Great Price—I would particularly urge you to read again and again the Book of Mormon and ponder and apply its teachings. The Book of Mormon was referred to by the Prophet Joseph Smith as “the most correct of any book on earth, and the keystone of our religion, and a man [and woman] would get nearer to God by abiding by its precepts, than by any other book.”” – Ezra Taft Benson
