September 10 – 2 Corinthians 5:19-21; “To wit, that God was in Christ, reconciling the world unto himself, not imputing their trespasses unto them; and hath committed unto us the word of reconciliation.  Now then we are ambassadors for Christ, as though God did beseech you by us: we pray you in Christ’s stead, be ye reconciled to God.  For he hath made him to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in him.” (more…)

October 19 – Jesus, not Joseph the Only Name for Salvation! Acts 4:10-12; “Be it known unto you all, and to all the people of Israel, that by the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, whom ye crucified, whom God raised from the dead, even by him doth this man stand here before you whole.  This is the stone which was set at nought of you builders, which is become the head of the corner.  Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved.”

July 6 – Mormons believe Jesus’ grace dependent upon obedience to Law.

Isaiah 61:10; “I will greatly rejoice in the LORD, my soul shall be joyful in my God; for he hath clothed me with the garments of salvation, he hath covered me with the robe of righteousness, as a bridegroom decketh himself with ornaments, and as a bride adorneth herself with her jewels.”

I saw an article in LDS Living that caught my eye yesterday with the title Why Do Mormons Struggle So Much with Grace?  Now, I must confess there was a part of my that wanted to jump up, raise my hand and say “I know, I know. Pick me, pick me!!” after reading it.

The short answer is because they don’t understand it, nor have they been taught the biblical view of God’s grace. The idea of being saved by grace after nothing I did was a foreign concept to me as a new creation in Jesus Christ. I thought to myself, there has to be something I must to earn my place in God’s presence.

Here are Questions 14 to 17 in our series based on the article ’51 Questions that might lead you to Mormonism’.

Just to let you know, after consulting with Michelle I don’t believe I’m going to answer all the questions in his article. However, I do plan on answering the ones that pertain directly to Mormon doctrine, and those which use scripture as a means to mislead the lost or cast doubts on what God has actually said.

Lying to Deceive

Mosiah 3:19; “For the natural man is an enemy to God, and has been from the fall of Adam, and will be, forever and ever, unless he yields to the enticings of the Holy Spirit, and putteth off the natural man and becometh a saint through the atonement of Christ the Lord, and becometh as a child, submissive, meek, humble, patient, full of love, willing to submit to all things which the Lord seeth fit to inflict upon him, even as a child doth submit to his father.”

Works for Salvation

2004 Priesthood/R.S. Manual – page 31; “There is but one path of safety for the Latter-Day Saints, and that is the path of duty. It is not a testimony only; it is not marvelous manifestations; it is not knowing that the gospel of Jesus Christ is true, that it is the plan of salvation — it is not actually knowing that the Savior is the Redeemer, and that Joseph Smith was his prophet, that will save you and me, but it is the keeping of the commandments of God, living the life of a Latter-Day Saint.” – Heber J. Grant
